nap question

When did your lo have the same nap times each day?

Allie takes a 30 min nap in the early morning. Then about 2 hours later another nap and then up for 2 and then down for another nap and some days a 30 min nap  between 4-5. Times and lengths are different each day. I am not sure if she should be on a schedule(up for 2 down for 2).

Did you just go with the flow for naps?

Re: nap question

  • For us it all depended on what time she got up for the day but even now it's still different times and lengths.  I followed the "2 hour awake rule" so she normally was up around 7am so she'd go down for her morning nap around 9-ish.  When she was a little younger this was a short nap, less than an hour so she'd end up with 3 naps a day.  We got into a good rhythm of a 2 hour nap in the morning probably right around a year, so up at 11 and then I'd push the second nap to about 2-ish and dropped the third.  But really, I just go with the flow and she goes down for a nap when she seems like she needs it, she really set her own schedule and even then it's not really a "schedule"

  • I followed the 2 hour rule until about 8 months old or so.

Now, at almost 10 months old, Maddy takes her first nap usually within 2-2.5 hours of waking up (I go by her cues rather than the clock). That morning nap is sometimes just 45/60 minutes, sometimes it is 2 hours. Then she's usually up for abour 3-3.5 hours before her second nap. But the time in between varies - some days are growing days and she is only up for 2 hours between.

As much as I'm a sleep nazi in terms of sleeping on their own, diligent about sleep routines, the time of their sleep isn't as important to me until we get to the one nap stage. Then I'll be strict about what time it is just to help set their body clocks.

But we've hit a nice rhythm right now with 2 naps.... and I hope it stays that way for a while. Ben went to 1 nap at only 11.5 months old :-(

  • G settled in a routine of a short nap b/t 8 and 9, longer nap from like 10-1130, and then long nap from 1-3 at 3 months.

Now she's kind of on the same schedule although she doesn't always take the short nap b/t 8 and 9, but she tends to always do like 10-1115 in the AM and 1-3ish in the PM.
