More TMI Boob Stuff (Mommies come in)
I figured out that I have a milk blister.
Any experience with this? Treatment? I see that I should be putting a hot wet compress on it prior to nursing and pumping...because I have time at work to go get a hot compress and THEN pump.
**sigh**
Re: More TMI Boob Stuff (Mommies come in)
I knew you would know!!
I noticed it about 2-3 weeks ago...I should have thought more about why I had a white bump on my nipple! I don't have (I don't think) any plugged ducts so hopefully I have caught it in time. I'm soaking it with a hot wet cloth. And no way am I taking a needle to my nipple.
Thanks Megan!
Yep, sounds like you are catching it early which is good. I thought I had thrush a second time because the pain was so intense, but nope, it was just that damn little white dot. The LC said some people are more prone to them because their milk is 'stickier' and can dry and form that little plug which then grows over with skin. If it becomes recurrent there's a natural supplement you can take that will thin your milk out a bit. Hopefully it's a one time thing and hopefully it resolves quickly without the needle! I had a 5 day weekend over the summer when my best friend was visiting, so I took advantage of the time to work on it; I'm sure she was surprised to find she was spending that much time with me and my boob in a bowl of hot water.
ETA: Also funny - they're actually not that common . When I went into the LC she called in a bunch of nurses and another LC to look at it because they had never seen one before and wanted to check mine out. Your LC might be excited if you tell her you have one!

I used to do a soak in hot water/Epsom salt (about 5 mins?), then the hot compress, then nurse. Afterwards I used a mix of grapefruit seed extract and distilled water, though I read olive oil and GSE as a recommendation as well. I definitely don't recommend popping it, they're easily infected and can lead to mastitis. GL! I used to get them constantly, the first 6 months of BFing was uncomfortable for me :P
