I forgot about wedding drama

My best friend called a few weeks ago hysterical because her wedding dress no longer fit her.  Well yesterday my sister and I got her to come over to see how bad it was because if it could not be fixed, we needed to have plan b.  Her dress isn't just a little small....try like 4 inches.  It is bad.  So of course, I got on the phone with the seamstress to see if we could get in asap to figure out if the dress could be saved.  The seamstress told us to come in right away.  We get there.  The seamstress looks at it and tells her it can be saved.   Phew!  I thought that was the end of it.  As she is about to pay to have the dress let out, she stops.  Uh oh!  Now she can't decide if she wants to do it or get a different dress.  Seriously?  She is getting married in June.   The seamstress had a few dresses in the shop and J fell in love with one.  I convinced her to sleep on it before investing.  Well we then went to DB and she liked one there too.  We found out that they will give her a credit for her dress toward a new one if she buys right away.  Oy!  So she had to go talk to FI because it was about $400 more than the original.  What do these girls think?  Once I got a dress, I never once looked at another for fear I would find something better.  I don't think she has any concept about timing and how 3 months in wedding time is not long.  She is exhausting me. Ok I am done with my vent.

Re: I forgot about wedding drama

  • Ugh, tough call b/c she's started looking at other dresses.  I guess I'd tell her to go w/a new dress, if she can afford.

But I also agree with you, that once you decide/buy a dress, you can't look anymore!  From all of the stories, it seems like if you do, it's all downhill.

  • I can understand why she was thinking of getting a new one....her original is incredibly heavy satin.  She is getting married at the end of June and wants something lighter and more flowy in case it is really hot.  I understand that but at the same time, she should have figured all this out before freaking about her original dress and stressing out and driving the seamstress nuts LOL....oy.  Plus it is only 3 months away

  • I remember the feeling that I didn't want any other dress in the world.  However, I really loved the dress shopping experience.  It was hard to give that up, but I never did it after I bought my dress.  She may be going through this.  You're a good friend to try your best to keep her on track.

  • She is incredibly impulsive and easily influenced and even yesterday she made a comment about feeling pressured with the first one because her FMIL and her mom loved it.  She just called to say her FI gave the go ahead to get a new one.  So Sunday we will be heading back to DB to get it.

  • It's a little bit funny.  I'm a "bride's attendant" in one wedding, and she's planning on making all 7 of her bridesmaids get dyed-to-match shoes.  The dresses are dark purple; I tried to convince her silver or black shoes would be fine, but she has her heart set on dark purple shoes.  (please note I didn't care what my MOH and single bridesmaid wore - all I asked is they be covered from nips to crotch, it could be long, short, tight, loose, same color, different color, same dress, different dress, etc., and when it came to shoes all I asked is that they wore a pair).

It's so easy to get swept up in the little things, and forgetting the scope of how quickly time goes by when a wedding is approaching!

  • I am so thankful i bought right off the rack and didnt need any alterations...considering we got engaged and planned a wedding with 175 guests in 6 months...any bumps in the road would have made me feel insane!!

Im with you though, I didnt look at another dress once I found my dress!

Best part: I'm not even in the bridal party (as Bride's Attendant), and she wants *me* to buy a dress in one of her colors and (probably) shoes to match.  Are you kidding me? This is all so I "can be in more of the pictures!" Umm, pass. We're already flying to Wisconsin, she wants everyone there by Thursday in the early afternoon, so we have flights, rental car, and hotel for 4 nights.  Don't think I want to shell out another $200+ on dress and matching shoes to be in pics.

I still don't understand this whole bride's attendant thing! Especially since now she wants you to get a matching dress? It sounds like your a bridesmaid to me! Maybe it's a California thing :)

LOL - you and me both don't understand it.  It's a mid-west thing (wedding is in Wisconsin), as some of the girls on here have explained to me. But she already has 7 bridesmaids, a maid of honor, a matron of honor, and 2 junior bridesmaids, and 2 flower girls. So it's been clearly explained to me that I'm not a bridesmaid.

I've already told her as the attendant I refuse to pick up dog poop (they're taking their Yorkie to the wedding) <note: if it's my own dog I'd pick up the poop>
