Re: Amazing story....

  • I think I will have to pass on this story.  For whatever reason I can't watch anything, read anything or listen to anything about abortion in the last few months.  If something comes on TV about it I feel an urge to change the channel or go in another room.  I have no idea why......maybe because I am having issues getting KU?

FTR, I am not against a woman's right to chose, just lately abortion makes me incredibly sad.

Sorry for my long winded response on abortion!  But it sounds like a interesting and possibly moving story!

  • Amazing story.  Beautiful testimony.  Thanks for sharing!  :-)
    "You're the L and the V, I'm the O and the E...Am I speaking clearly?"
  • Mrs.Jason - I know what you mean, I too have been waiting quite a while to be blessed with my very own child and watching anything that has to do with abortion makes me really sad. And at the same time I respect other people's opinion about it, though I do not agree.

I saw the video and made me cry, Im so happy for the lady who survived an abortion and the best part is she grew up without hatred in her heart.

  • I didn't watch the whole thing but that is kinda creepy. I think it was the part about hearing the baby cry from the trash can. That's when I stopped watching.

    I love my crazy child!

  • I'm sorry for this woman that this is the way she came into this world.  At the same time, I think her flip attitude of "Women should just choose adoption," shows a very narrow-minded viewpoint that lacks compassion and understanding.  She never once mentions having tried to put herself in her birth mother's shoes to try to understand what she went through.  Having survived abortion doesn't mean she gets to judge the world and decide what is best every other woman in it.
  • I thought abortions could only be performed up to a certain point? This one took place when the birth mother was already 5 months along?

Laws limiting late-term abortions have only been passed in the last 10 years or so.  When the woman was born in 1978, abortions in the 5th month would have still been legal.  There are still a couple of clinics in the country that provide late-term abortions today.  Today, most of the women seeking out these procedures are carrying fetuses that are destined to be stillborn or live very short and painful lives.  I can't imagine being in such a terrible situation to have to contemplate making such a decision.

Unfortunately there have been several attempts at the state level since the beginning of the year to pass laws that would limit women's reproductive choices.  In South Dakota and Nebraska they proposed bills that would classify the killing of abortion providers as "justifiable homicide."  In Georgia, a legislative proposal would require investigation of all miscarriages to ensure that they were the result of "natural causes".  Arizona is flirting with trying to criminalize seeking abortions because of the gender or race of the fetus.  At the national level, some Republicans in Congress are trying to ensure that Planned Parenthood is stripped of all federal funding in the future, even though the funding they receive is already not allowed to go to abortion services anyway (and abortions are estimated to make up only 3% of the services PP provides).

I am unapologectically pro-choice.  Having had an unplanned pregnancy where I went through the range of options from contemplating abortion to finding birth parents for my child and then ultimately deciding to have and raise her, I am even more pro-choice now than ever.  Heck, had Plan B been available over-the-counter when I conceived DD, she wouldn't be here today.  That doesn't mean I don't want other women to have access to Plan B just because I didn't or because things magically turned out ok for me.  Things don't just always turn out rosy for everyone involved when an unplanned for and/or unwanted for child is brought into the world.  I would love to see the day where all children that are conceived are loved and well provided for.  I hope that day comes.
