Resume critiquing professionals?

DH is in the process of looking for another job and needs to update his resume to reflect all of his sales experience & sale management skills.  He has his resume on theladders.com (he has used it before) and inquired to thier people about what he could do to make his resume more attractive to potential employers.  The lady who looked it over gave him some valid comments on how to improve the resume and toward the end of the email went into a sale pitch of their resume critiquing/writing services at the cost of about $700.  I don't mind paying someone to help DH go through his resume to update it and make it better to help him land a job but I think the price they are asking is way too expensive, particularly for the percentage of people who got jobs after using the service.

Does anyone know of any national services or services in Florida (particularly N. Florida) that will help you write and/or critique your resume?

TIA!

Re: Resume critiquing professionals?

  • They're likely charging such a high fee because he's a high earner, and those resumes tend to be more complicated.

I'd browse around for resume writing businesses and look for someone who has a certification in resume writing.

Then again, I've never used a service. I've always heard they were way overpriced, and was able to update my resume by running it by friends and family. My dad was in management for years, I had a friend in my field, and DH has a kick a$$ resume and has looked over mine.

  • I almost got suckered in a similar scam. I got a form letter saying that my that resume had been received and for a small for (something like $550) they could suggest improvements.

As soon as I Googled the company, the first hit was from "Rip-Off Report". I did not respond, and a week later got an email offering me the service  at 1/2 price.

My local DOL has resume writing workshops and reviews at no cost, I would recommend looking into that.
