AW- Grad School

I got an interview for a clinical psych grad program! I'm very excited but it's a very competitive program so I'm also a nervous wreck. One good thing I have going for me is I'm an alum so small advantage there.

  • Good luck.  I remember those days and can relate.  As someone who know sits on the other side of the table, I can tell you that we usually make up our minds before the candidate even comes in.  However, it is only if they totally screw up that we will decide otherwise.  Remember to relax and keep us posted.

Good luck if you decide to go for it! I'm actually kicking myself now because the past 2 years I began applying for a newer school psych program in my area but never pulled the trigger on it. Come to find out they were accepting all qualified applicants to build the program. The program should be accredited this year and I'd be halfway through it already!
  • I'm actually also a liitle curious about the night out with the current grads after the interviews and orientation. Drinking is definitely involved (you pay for own alcohol for liability reasons) so I'm not sure if I should completely abstain or have a couple. My plan was to feel out the crowd and if the majority are partaking to have one or two but definitely not get drunk.
  • Good luck!  I'm sure you'll be awesome!

This!  It was very common for me in grad school to go out for some drinks with classmates, etc...even with our professors.  Go and enjoy yourself, but I think moderation is the key.
