*daniele* paint Q

Was it you who had the add-something-to-paint-to-reduce-the-smell-trick?

Was it Vanilla extract?  How much for a gallon of paint?

Re: *daniele* paint Q

  • Yes! Just a little dab will do you.

If you're using white/cream paint, start with just a few drops (and/or try lemon extract instead). I've seen recommendations for 1-2 tsp per gallon, but I say start small because you can always add, right?

Also, you can put onions cut into quarters or thirds and/or bowls of vinegar about the room to absorb the odor, too.

(And I know it's cold out, but you still want to make sure you keep the room well ventilated-- hiding the odor doesn't hide the fumes, unfortunately. Sorry to point out something that may be obvious, but it's the ABC After School Special in me.)

    What are you painting?

  • I'm waiting for DH to find his motivation to paint the baby's future room.  I wish it were warmer, so we could open the window without worry of losing too much heat, but I definitely plan to take breaks for fresh air, and will open the window a bit also.

My concern with waiting for warmer weather is that I do the detail work (edging, etc) and I may not have the energy or physical ability much longer.

I bought Behr paint, which says it's low VOC, and my midwives have said that painting isn't un-safe.  But, I promise to vent the room.  Big Smile

  • Nice! You're going to show us photos when it's done, right? I love seeing what people do with their interior decorating!

  • This is my plan: beach sand tan on 3 of the walls, with tropical ocean water turquoise on the 4th wall.

Now, I'm thinking (partially since I'm afraid I didn't get enough turquoise paint for one whole wall, and partially because I want to try something a little more exciting/creative) that I might want to paint the bottom portion of the 4th wall in the sand color, with turquoise water and waves, then a bit of sky blue across the top.  My inspirations:

view of water, landing in Cozumelthe water as we flew into Cozumel for our honeymoon; the paint color I chose is the lightest color of the water, and is even called "Cozumel"

Then, the bedding we've chosen: image

and, the inspiration for the waves on the wall (with the same crib bedding):

  • I like it! Especially since it will remind you of your honeymoon! And it will be nice to have something interesting to look at on the walls when you're in there in the middle of the night, rocking the child back to sleep!  Smile

  • That's going to look so great! I hope you post pics for us when you're done!
