Writing sample?

I am interested in applying for an events manager job and the application requires a writing sample.  I do not write articles or anything like that for my current position, so I don't have a file to pull from.  When creating something like this, what subject area should I target?  I am currently director of alumni relations and run all of the events, if that helps.  TIA!

Re: Writing sample?

  • Do you write press releases? Newsletters? Announcements? I think any of those would work. Maybe even make up a charity/alumni event and write a press release and send that in

  • I don't write any of that, but I can definitely make something up off of one of the events that I've done.  Thanks for the ideas!

  • Maybe there is some copy for an event invitation or a speech you've written for an event. Think about everywhere you write every day, and maybe think about compiling a page or two of smaller samples if you don't have a larger piece.
