Running vinegar through dishwasher

If I wanted to run a cycle of just vinegar through my dishwasher when it's empty do I just pour the vinegar into the little cup and close the lid? I have never used a liquid detergent in there, only the little Cascade packets. Do I just run the hot water rinse or do I need to run a full cycle to clean it out?

Sorry this is my first dishwasher and I don't want to mess it up!

Re: Running vinegar through dishwasher

  • I would pour the vinegar in the cup and just run the dishwasher (empty) on a regular cycle.

  • I've always just dumped it in the bottom of the dishwasher...no cup needed!

  • I have found that powdered lemonade works better than vinegar.  I am not sure why this works but I learned of it from a friend and it really works better.   I use vinegar for most of my other cleaning.
  • I also add a small bowl of vinegar sitting on the top rack - this way the vinegar in it gets dispensed later in the cycle as well.

That's interesting. I guess maybe it has something to do with the citrus?
