Re: Oscar Best/Worst Dressed

  • LOVED Halle Berry ans Sandra Bullock...Mila Jovavich looked great too. And the more I see Cate Blanchett, the more I like it. Someone described it as fashion turning into art, and I kinda get it. OH, and Natalie Portman...loved it!

Didn't like Gwenyth Paltrow or Nicole Kidman...or that Melissa Leo, not a fan.

  • Maybe no one watched it? Or no one loved/hated any of the dresses?

I really liked Reece Witherspoon's dress. I loved the white dress Anne Hathaway wore for the beginning of the show. Halle Berry's dress was amazing on her, but that woman could wear anything and make it look stunning.

There were a lot more that I didn't like, than liked. Melissa Leo's was not good. ScarJo's dress was beautiful, but not for the Oscar's, didn't seem grand enough. Mila Kunis' purple dress made it look like she had doily pasties on. Kathryn Bigelow's dress was horrid...it looked like a red sweater dress with the shoulders cut out and an oddly matched belt. Jennifer Lawrence looked good in red, but the first frame I saw of it was only from the waist up and I did a double take because I thought she was wearing a bathing suit from Baywatch.

I liked Amy Adams' dress, but the jewelry was distracting...she should have worn amazing earrings and skipped the necklace.

I know Cate Blanchett's was Givenchy and it was art and all that, but I just kept thinking that it looked like a bib, lol.

Didn't see Mila J....off to google her dress. ;)

  • Loved:

    - Jennifer Hudson (she was smokin hot!)

    image

    - Sandra Bullock (beautiful shape/style to the dress, and she looked stunning)

    image

    - Amy Adams (the midnight blue sequins really took the dress from "meh" to "wow" for me)

    image

    - Natalie Portman (loved her maternity look. She looked really beautiful and glowing, and the dress was flattering. A major improvement from what she wore to the Golden Globes)

    image

    Didn't Care For:

    - Penelope Cruz (looked like she bought it at a mall store. She's such a gorgeous woman, and she could have done so much better than this dress)

    image

    - Nicole Kidman (looked like she wrapped a table runner around herself. The hip area was not flattering at all)

    image

    - Cate Blanchett (I liked parts of it, but it was overall not well executed. I think the shoulder part really killed it for me, and I didn't like the yellow with that tone of lavendar)

    image

    - Helena Bonham Carter (the tattered sleeves were awful, and she looked like she was ready for a goth prom... although this look was really no surprise for her)

    image

    - Russell Brand (trying way too hard, and his outfit looked very ill-fitted and wrinkly)

    image

    - Melissa Leo (her dress looked like it was wearing her, and was way too stiff. Plus it looked like a doily!)

    image

    - Cody Horn (I hated everything from the dress itself, to the pattern on the fabric, and especially the gloves -- they were totally wrong with that dress)

  • I have a hard time remembering who wore what.  I'm more of a - show me a pic, and I'll tell you what I think of the dress - kind of girl ;)

That said, since some people have started...haha.  I actually thought Cate Blanchett's was kinda cool.  I like dresses that "take risks" or whatever without becoming too Bjork-like.  And so I liked that.  I didn't like Amy Adam's dress, and I love her, but I thought there was too much going on with the necklace.  I thought she should've worn something with her chest shown.

Jennifer Hudson looked amazing, but her boobs needed some adjusting.

Sandra Bullock looked amazing, as always.

I loved a lot of the dresses Anne Hathaway wore.  Her first one, the red one, was gorgeous.

I wished that Natalie Portman would have worn earrings with a bit more glitz and sparkle.  Her earrings were interesting, but also sort of resembled curtain tie-backs or something.

Annette Benning looked amazing and her dress was age appropriate but not at all dowdy.

  • Liked: Sandra Bullock, Reese Witherspoon, Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis, Hailee Steinfeld, and Mandy Moore.

Worst for me: I just did not like what Cate Blanchett and Nicole Kidman wore. I like the material of the dress that Amy Adams wore, but the sleeves and neck were awkwardish to me. Scarlett Johannson's dress wasn't really appropriate for the Oscars, but it wasn't horrendous.

THIS!!!!! Thank you, Stef. You took the words out of my mouth. I'm so glad someone else saw those and thought "What the Heck?"

  • Loved: Mila Kunis, Halle Berry, and Anne Hathaway's white/sparkly dress for the first portion of presenting, Reese Witherspoon and Hailee Stenfeld..OH! And Helen Mirren.

Not caring for: Natalie Portman's hair, Amy Adams' hair, Russell Brand, Sharon Stone, Mark Wahlberg's wife, Marisa Tomei and Florence Welch (either outfit).

I'm going to step out on a limb here and say that I liked Melissa Leo's dress. Perhaps the lace was a little too bright white, but I thought it was different and fresh compared to the "prom bombs" we've seen in the past. It was nice to see someone take a risk like that and have it work (though it looked like her hair stylist got to the back of her head and kind of gave up and threw it together).

  • I didn't watch last night - just looking at some photos today. I'm pretty unimpressed with what I'm seeing. I just can't understand how people who make so much money can't manage to dress themselves properly.

The good high lights for me were Anne Hathaway, who reminded me of Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman with that red dress; Natalie Portman - gorgeous color she had on, and she is just glowing; Scarlett Johansson; and Camila Alves - stunning dress, rocking body. Love her.

There were a ton of people I thought looked awful, which made me sad because I really like many of them as actresses. Michelle Williams, Nicole Kidman, Amy Adams (Her dress looked like something a Vegas game show hostess would wear, but her hair looked nice...), Helena Bonham Carter (I never really liked her style), Melissa Leo (uhhhh, dress looks like a doily), Cate Blanchett, Gwyneth Paltrow (hated her dress, and her hair looked flat and crispy), Mandy Moore (dress made her hips look huge, and she's a tiny girl), Celine Dion, and Hilary Swank (looked like a dozen birds were molting on her dress).

I love Sandra Bullock, and the red color looks good on her, but I thought the dress wasn't sitting on her right and her upper body/chest looked too bare. Love Halle Berry too but I just didn't care for the dress. And Reese Witherspoon!! Love her and think she's gorgeous but her dress was so boring and not that attractive, and I didn't like the hair.

Wow, I just spent way too much time looking at and critiquing what a bunch of celebrities wore last night... Yay for me.

  • I just loved everything Anne Hathaway wore! I want them all mailed to my door so I can own them, please.

Also liked Natalie Portman, Reese Witherspoon, Mila Kunis, Nicole Kidman, Amy Adams (OK, what didn't I like? I don't know!)

I liked Melissa Leo's dress for a woman her age. It totally wouldn't work on a younger woman, but it worked on her. Same for Hailee Steinfeld.

My favorite place on earth: The Amargosa Valley.

  • I don't watch the Oscars very often and I only saw a few minutes in the hospital waiting room since FIL passed away that night. They had terrible color going on with the TV. It looked someone has smeared butter all over it so I just looked at photos online.

Best: Natalie Portman-I don't think she's ever looked so pretty. That color and the softness of the dress was great. And the PG had her glowing. Sandra Bullock-loved the red and the cut was beautiful. Amy Adams-my doppleganger always looks great and this was no exception. I agree that the necklace should have been nixed. Jennifer Hudson-her new svelte figure looked great in the orange ballroom. But I agree that her boobs were in too tightly. Mila Kunis-Loved the lavender color and the soft, Victorian + modern details. Anne Hathaway-Loved this red and the bustle thing in back. Mandy Moore-this was an understated version of Halle Berry's outfit. It was gorgeous on top.

Worst: Reese Witherspoon-way too That Girl for me. Halle Berry-she's so beautiful she can wear anything but it was way too Vegas showgirl bride to me. Gwenyth Paltrow usually looks great but this was a no. She looked super shiny and washed out at the same time. Penelope Cruz-bad prom outfit. Nicole Kidman-like Halle she can wear anything and still look gorgeous but this made her look like origami. Michelle Williams-very dull, needed accessories. Cate Blanchett-what was going on with the bib?! I like unusual but this was ugly. Hilary Swank-WTF? Every ostrich in America was plucked bald to make this dress. And when is she going to give up the Boys Don't Cry hair? It looks way too severe on her.
