**Jules** - Vegas

So... how was the Paris? Other than the awful pillows...

Re: **Jules** - Vegas

  • It was decent. I can't say I loved it, but if I got a good deal I would stay there again. The location is great because it is in the middle of the strip. We could have upgraded to a renovated room for $20 a night. The unrenovated one was in decent shape.. but I bet the pillows were better in the renovated one. Hahahah.  I actually feel like we got a better value on Treasure Island when we stayed there a couple of years ago. It's definitely nicer to stay in the middle of the strip so most stuff is walking distance. Where are you guys thinking about staying?

  • We're staying at the Paris on a really good deal (~$100/night inc. taxes). I wanted middle of the strip this time around. The past two times I've been I was down at Excalibur ('96 and '02) and I refuse to ever stay there or anywhere near there again.

We have the basic room booked, but are going to try a tip method I read about here for an upgrade. Basically, you slip the clerk a $20 (or more) between your ID and CC and ask if there are any complimentary upgrades. From what I have read, the odds are good that it'll work.

    Where did you eat?

  • You can't pass that rate up! And for Paris, that's a great deal! You will be very happy with it. We ate breakfast in the hotel at their cafe. It was perfect for breakfast. As for dinner's out we ate Yolo's Mexican Grill in Planet Hollywood (our first night was casual night). It was Mexican, it was good.. nothing to write home about. The second night we ate at Spago in Caesar's Palace. It was VERY good, but pricey for what it was. But, it's Vegas, and I have learned that is kind of par for the course. The last night we had dinner at Paris at Mon Ami Gabi. It was pretty good. I think if we had done a little more planning we might have ended up somewhere else. We did everything very last minute.

Years ago when we were in Vegas for my Dad's 60th birthday, we celebrated my brother's birthday at Wing Lei at The Wynn. I remember loving the atmosphere and the food was so good! Hopefully it is still as good as it was when we went.

Another time I was in Vegas, for a friends 30th birthday, we went to Red Square, and I remember really enjoying the restaurant.

Which shows are you going to again? You are going to 'O', right?

  • Thanks for the restaurant recs! I'm working on planning some of our meals. I'm trying not to plan too much in that department, but do have reservations for Mon Ami Gabi for lunch one day. To get the biggest bang for the buck and to work best with my diet, I'm looking for our biggest meals to be at lunch and maybe do one nice dinner and the rest pretty casual. We'll probably hit a few buffets, since it'll please everybody. Since we're there for 6 nights, we have to watch our spending very carefully. We definitely have to make it as budget-friendly as possible.

We are seeing "O" and I am going with my MIL to see Celine Dion. Between the concert, planning the trip, and snagging deals, I'm racking up the good DIL points, haha!

  • You will enjoy Mon Ami Gabi. Mmm.. I was a bit hungover this time for it, so I didn't get to appreciate as much as I could have :) .

Oh yeah.. 6 nights. Yeah, that could rack up really quickly! Things can be so pricey in Vegas. I can totally feel you on the watching your money thing. We were only there a weekend, and it sure added up!

I LOVED 'O'. I have actually seen it twice. And I am sure Celine will be awesome too. NMS of music, but I have a feeling I would probably still enjoy the show. Way to rack up the DIL points!

  • It was originally only going to be 5 nights, but the flights and hotel worked out to be cheaper to add another night. I'm sure the daily expenses will make it a wash in the end, but hey - it's an extra day of vacation. :)

I'm not a huge Celine fan. I used to really like her - pre-Titanic (loved the "Falling Into You" album), but stopped after that. Plus, my music tastes have changed over the years. I'm sure I'll enjoy the show, but it wasn't my pick. DH hates her.

You saw Garth Brooks, right? How was it? See, I'd like to see that because I never have and listened to nothing but country in the mid-late 90s. I wouldn't have anyone willing to go with me though, not that I even know if he's playing. :(

  • I did see Garth, and I was a bit disappointed. I have never seen him before. Maybe if I had seen him before, I think I would have appreciated it more. It was him mostly talking about and singing all the artists that influenced him. Trisha also sang with him which was great. But all in all, maybe only 30% of what he sang was his stuff. I do love his voice though! But, I went to see him and hear his music! Of course, I heard others after the show just swooning about how awesome the show was.. so maybe I am just too picky?

  • Is it odd that I'd only want to see him if I knew Trisha would perform too? I adore her and wish she was more popular now. I'm sorry the show wasn't all that great. I can see why you'd be disappointed. I've never been to a show where the performer didn't do as many of their own songs. Usually those are just saved for encores.

BTW, I just checked and there is a show while we are there. The only tickets left are for $250+ though. Ouch! Guess I'll be passing on that...
