My last day at my current job will be 3/9. I gave my notice last week. I've been miserable for a long time, but the main reason is the guy I work for. I hate him, he's annoying, can't do anything for himself, etc. Anyway, he emailed me and offered to take me to lunch tomorrow as a "thank you for all you have done for me." I really don't want to go. I try to speak to him as little as possible as it is now because I just can't stand him anymore. Would it be rude of me to decline? How can I decline without being blatantly rude? Or should I just suck it up and go?
A coworker suggested I go and just opt to not discuss business, but I don't want to discuss my personal life with him either!
Ideas please!?
Re: Gave notice - boss wants to go to lunch
Would you feel comfortable telling him that you previously committed to lunch tomorrow? Then find a co-worker to back up your story, and make sure you are OUT at lunch and schedule meetings or something around lunch so you can't just go later.
Worst case scenario: suck it up and go. You never want to burn your bridges in case he comes up in your path again down the road. Make yourself feel better knowing how great you will feel that you will never again have to work with him.

Ditto. He probably really DID appreciate all you did for him. No reason to burn bridges!
