I posted on D&R but wanted ya'll opinion too.
need a larger filing system than what we have and found this:

Seems
easy enough so I have been looking on my Craigslist. I found this for
140. This should work for what I want. I kinda like it too because it's
taller. Is it ugly? What should I offer for the chest? Should I paint it or just
leave it as is?

Re: xp: Opinon on CL item
It's not my style, but I think it looks like it matches the filing system example you gave pretty well. The fact that it's higher would be a bonus for me: I wouldn't want to be trying to access files from a box on the floor since I'm tall (so, even when sitting, something floor-level would be low for me).
You've probably already done this, but I would make sure the measurements on the interior of the box could accomodate the size files you plan to use.

I love redoing furniture pieces. And I am in love with that file system.
With that said, redoing the CL piece would be easy enough. If you wanted to make it a little more stream line you should be able to sand it down and maybe remove the pillar looking things on either side depending on how they are attached. You could do a fun paint color, or if you stain it go darker. I have found with the older stain its hard to cover the orange coloring.
But I would double check on the interior dimensions to make sure it would work for your files. As for the price I dont think Id pay more than $50. You might also do a craigslist search for toy boxes or someone that likes to make things. My dh likes to dabble in wood working and someone with a desire to do it could make it from scratch to your exact specifications (height etc) for about the full price asking of the original CL post. Ill show him the pic if you like and see if its something he could make.
If you are feeling extra creative you should look at www dot ana-white dot com. Amazing, and Im sure you could find something similar to do it your self from scrath if you have the tools
