So, my cake business is really taking off, and like Pam, thanks to my nesties who have been loyal customers!
So here is my idea, I know it has probably been done, but I have not come up with anywhere locally that does it. If I am wrong, please let me know.
I am going to create a "birthday party in a box" (real name to be determined) type thing for the home birthday party.
In the birthday package, for a price per child will include:
1 - 6" white iced birthday cake (choice of 3 flavors), on a board and in a box (1 for each child to take home)
Icing - pre-filled bags in different colors, with assortment of tips (# of colors depend on # of kids). Additional bags can be purchased for a price.
Fondant Decorations (themed based on Boy/Girl, my choice) Certain theme can be met at an additional cost (if the decorations require more work/fondant)
1 Fabric Apron and Fabric pen for birthday child to have their friends sign (will have the option to purchase aprons for all party guests)
Discounted Birthday cake for the party
All of the above will be either picked up or delivered to the home or location of the party.
I still have not figured out a price, as I am still pricing all the items I would need.
What do you think of this?
Is this something you would want for your child's party?
How much would you pay "per child" for this?
Anything you think I could add or change to make a better package?
Thanks!
Amanda
Re: Can I run as business idea by you chicas?
I think it's a great idea. It's a lot to offer so I imagine you'd have to find some great prices on the supplies in order to make it affordable for parents.
As for a cost...I've never seen anything like this so I guess I couldn't give a good perspective as to what I'd pay.
I think it's a cute idea. maybe have a few different options/pricing levels to attract more customers.
only similar thing I've seen is a bake shop in Newport that sells cookie decorating kits (cookies, icing, decorations)
Thanks for your input so far. I am still researching online vendors to order my boxes, boards, aprons, all the disposable stuff.
I want to keep this budget friendly, as well as offer more elaborate packages. If you think, most people will have parties outside the home, pay a per child fee, plus provide cake, favors etc.
For this one fee, they are getting the activity and the favor in 1 price! Hopefully that will attract some.
I think this is such a cute idea! I can't wait to try it out!
I love the idea, although I'm wondering if you could do cupcakes vs. a 6" cake...a 6" cake seems big to me for each child...although maybe I'm wrong. Also, cupcakes might make it more affordable and easier to transport/set up.
I saw this as an idea in an old issue of Parenting magazine as a have a home party theme and it looked fun.
I'm not sure on price per child...I think if you threw #'s out there I could tell you if I'd be willing to pay it...I think in my mind I'm thinking that future points I"m probably looking at having 10-15 kids at G's parties based on the friends children and her having a few friends. Based on that, if the package included her party cake, I'd feel comfortable paying probably $125 - $175 or probably more (I think I'd have to see pics of all the stuff to have a better idea maybe). I'm just thinking maybe $10 - $15 per kid for the stuff and maybe $50-$100 for the party cake...? I'm probably way off though. It's probably worth way more.
I don't know what your costs are going to be, but I know I had seen this idea before, but where the kids go to a bakery to decorate/etc.
Found this Cali blog w/ prices -- http://decoratewithmeparties.blogspot.com/
The chocolate / Candy store downstairs has something similar called Kid in a candy store parties....I know she charges per kid depending on what supplies/goods they want. Also I know you would need insurance and a Board of Health Certificate to deliver to sites and deal with kids. (also a BOH inspection prior to the certificate) May get costly initially but doable once the startup costs are done
Good luck
