smoothies :)

I saw on another board a post about green smoothies and was intrigued.  I have been wanting to get in more veggies/fruits.  I tried it today for lunch and Im hooked!

I had some frozen blackberries and strawberries in the freezer from last summer-a few handfulls of those, a whole apple sliced (not peeled), a scoop of protein powder and water.  (I was out of any leafy greens or I would have added that too).  It was SO good, and filling!  I think this is a great way to get more fruits (and veggies) into your diet, and hopefully make you healthier too!

Some people add avocado, celery, carrots, sprouts, pineapple, oranges, bananas, pears etc.  I cant wait for warmer weather and fresh fruits and veggies!  I just wanted to share.

Re: smoothies :)

  • that's great! I was making 'green monsters' pretty regularly a couple of summers ago, but I made myself sick on them. I did like 3 cups of mixed baby greens, almond milk, frozen banana and ground flaxseed. it tasted pretty good, but when I bought the greens I would get a big tub (b/c it was much cheaper). I had to make one like every day for a week each time i bought ingredients and I just got sick of them.

I need to try ones w/ more fruit so I can vary it up!

  • I make fruit smoothies about 2 times a week. I buy a big bag of frozen fruit and just add milk or yogurt, a little splenda,  a little ice and some vanilla extract. Yummy and good for you. I usually make them for breakfast on the weekends. If I could get my butt out of bed during the week I would make them everyday!
  • I make lots of strawberry smoothies.... especially this time of year.  I use honey to sweeten instead of sugar or substitute.  Yummy!
