Hey ladies, I wanted to share a quick recap of the my baby's birth. Last Wednesday 2/16/11, I awoke about 430am, with contractions and fluid liquid, awoke Joey thinking my water broke. Called my dr, she sent us to Ob Triage, we get there, the first nurse was awesome, she checked me, I was 2cm dilated, the same as my previous dr appt. The nurse helped me through my breathing techniques. They did testing, the fluid I was leaking wasnt my bag of water, so my OB ordered a sonogram to see if my amniotic fluid was leaking. By this time, Nurse Betty, was on duty and had no bedside manner. Needless to say, the sonogram came back normal, but I was still having contractions. My dr released me home, I had been at the hospital about 5 hours, so they told me to take Tylenol for the contractions. Im like WTF.
So I go home, and my contractions are spread out now, about 35-40 mins apart, but lasting about 5 mins, with fluid leaking everytime. so all day and night wednesday I am having intense contractions, with this fluid leaking, thinking its normal, because hell its my first baby!
Thursday comes and I have my dr appt at 345, Im still contracting, but they are about 15 mins apart. So we head to our dr appt. My dr comes in and says how are you, are you still leaking fluids, I say yep, she says really! Let me check you. She goes to check my cervix and is like OMG you are 5cm dilated!!! Put on your clothes and head downstairs to the hospital, she says u are in active labor. I tell her well that means I have been in active labor since yesterday. So we go down to labor and delivery.
As soon as we get in the room, my awesome Nurse Nikki comes in and she is working diligently, she asks me about pain, she orders my epi ASAP. By this time, things are going by so fast, so my SIL comes, while my husband runs to the house to get our bags and the baby car seat!
My dr comes and checks me at about 530pm, I am 6 cm. So I rest up thinking it will be a long night. The epi was good, because I was having intense contractions according to the monitor but I couldnt feel them.
About 10pm, my dr comes back and checks me, Im 9cm, so now things are starting to get real!!!!! However, I can feel the all the pain now, like really intense pressure, which means my epi is almost wore off. So the Nurse Anesthesist comes in and gives me just enough to curve the pain, but not too much, because I was so close, and my dr says I needed to feel the contractions to know when to push. So at 1030 I am fully dilated and I start pushing, the pressure hurts LIKE HELL, everyone told me that oh with epi you wont feel anything but hunty that PRESSURE IS PAIN!!! After 15 mins at 1045 Malia Ayana was born @ 6lbs 9oz, 19 1/2 in. I am hoping to breastfeed, I have been pumping and getting her to latch, but my milk hasnt come in, so its starting to make me feel really defeated, but I still have hope. Below are a few pics of Malia.
