XP: All-inclusive resort recommendations?
I know I could ask this on the travel board but I prefer ideas from the local ladies. Help me brainstorm.
We are planning a "40-moon" sometime later this year. We both turn 40 this year and we never really had much of a honeymoon so we're combining them into one relaxing, re-connecting vacation. We have done some research but I thought I'd ask around for more ideas.
- We prefer a place with no kids.
- We're thinking somewhere in Mexico / Caribbean but we aren't stuck on any specific location.
- Pretend money is no object. Of course it will come into play when we have to pay!
- We haven't yet decided if we're going in the summer or fall.
Mostly, I'd love to know of specific resorts where you've stayed in the past few years that you liked. We can work with a travel agent to find something in our budget at that location or a similar location.
Thanks!
Re: XP: All-inclusive resort recommendations?
We stayed at the Aventura Spa Palace in Riviera Maya, Mexico for our honeymoon and loved it. Aventura Spa Palace is adults only, but there is another Palace resort connected to Aventura Spa Palace -- Aventura Cove Palace, which allows children. As a guest at Spa Palace, you can use facilities at Cove Palace as well, but kids cannot come to the Spa Palace grounds. To be honest, even when we went to the Cove side to eat or see a show, there weren't all that many children. There are additional restaurants on the Cove side that are not available on the Spa side.
The resort was not very crowded when we were there (in June), which I liked. But if you're looking to meet other couples to hang out with, or more of a lively, party atmosphere, it might not be ideal.
Also, there is not a beach at the resort. They have a lagoon with salt water and fish, but there is no beach.
I would highly recommend the Palace resorts in general. I think they are a great value and will treat you well.
I have also heard great things about the Excellence resorts, but I think they are a little pricier (but still relatively reasonable).
We went to the Riviera Maya in Mexico, about an hour from the Cancun airport. We stayed at Secrets Maroma

It was all inclusive and adults only. It was amazing and beautiful!! They were so nice and friendly I would highly recommend it. It looks exactly like it does in the pictures on their website.
Never been to one but take me with you, pleeeeeease!!
- We also went there for our HM and it was amazing! I have no complaints about a single thing there. We did a lot of tours and excursions, spa stuff, food, etc. and they handled everything for us. It was wonderful. We went in late October/early November and there weren't many people at either of the two resorts, but we also got there on a Wed and by Friday/Saturday more people showed up. It was still never crowded at any given time.
- They basically have a "man-made" beach but for me it was perfect. I hate the ocean. We went to Sandals Grande St Lucian for our HM. I really liked St Lucia and the Sandals resots. They have 3 on the island. I feel like ours, although all couples and adults, felt a tad spring breakish. We went to both of the others for dinners. They Halcyon was more the older, keep to ourselves crowd (60ish age wise). The other, which I'm blanking on the name of, was where we would prefer to stay. You could hear the waves crashing, the restaurants were a little nicer, and the crowd seemed to be a good compromise of partying and fun loving (aka- dancing, shows, mingling and not just sitting at the pool bar or playing water volleyball).
I hope you guys find somewhere amazing. It sounds like a ton of fun!!
We loved the Couples Ochos Rios (Jamaica) resort. Stayed there on our honeymoon in 2008. I believe it's now called Couples Tower Isle, following a complete refurbishment of the resort.

We booked thru honeymoonsinc.com, and got a great deal that included our airfare out of CVG, as well as several excursions while in Jamaica.
I loved Aventura Spa Palace, but haven't been since they connected it to a kid friendly resort. I have always been a fan of Palace Resorts. You get a lot for your money.
I also really liked Couples Negril. Negril is amazing.
The Royal Playa del Carmen...adults only all-inclusive. AMAZING! I can't even describe how great this place is. Definitely check it out.
p.s. it was also the most affordable resort we looked into as well
