Kids teeth ??

I've recently noticed despite our effort, Luke's teeth are yellow. Anyone have any recommendations on how best to keep up their teeth?

Also, when did your LO first go to the dentist? My pediatrician recommended we bring him to the dentist. He basically has all his teeth already, so... Just curious though.

Re: Kids teeth ??

  • We've been rubbing Caroline's gums with a wet wash cloth, twice a day,  since she was born, almost. Before she had teeth b/c of the milk settling there. I asked our dentist and he said he'd see her somewhere between 2-3 yrs of age. If Luke's ped thinks he should see one them maybe he thinks something else is going on?

  • The American Pediatric Association has started recommending that kids start going to the dentist at their first birthday.  However, most dentists, including ours, won't see kids until they are 2-3.

In the meantime, we brush Ridley's teeth twice daily with non-fluoride toothpaste.

  • I noticed this w/ Jake over the summer (esp on the top front teeth) this summer.  Luckily it was just plaque and we found that the Arm & Hammer Spinbrush took care of it and revealed nice white teeth underneath  :o).

  • yes, the recommendation is right around their first birthday.  There are only two pediatric dentists in ME, one in Augusta and one in SoPo.

Southern Maine Pediatric Dentistry is the one in SoPo.  I've heard the MD is super nice :)  (and for full disclosure, my SIL works there)

Same here. One of my friends is a hygienist and she told the recommendation is age 1, but most dentists including ours and the place she works, don't want kids to come until closer to 3.

I brush his twice a day, but did notice he's got a little discoloration near the gum line on the top two - I think like Kristen said that it's probably plaque.  The pedi said they looked good.  I'll keep scrubbing at them, but it's hard because he's not always super cooperative.  I don't think he'd let me near him with a spin brush now!  I'd bring him in to the dentist if your pedi recommended it though.

  • There is also a pediatric dentist in Sanford... I am going to ask the doc at their 2 year appointment but he wasn't too worried about it at the 18 month appointment and our dentist won't see them until they are 3-4 so I am thinking of trying the one in Sanford if the ped says they need to go.

  • Thanks ladies. Grossly what works - using my finger nail Ick! I think its plaque as well, but he isn't exactly cooperative with me. It is just his top teeth. I will continue to scrub and keep an eye on it. The ped. gave us a list of dentists, so I'll see if any of them will take him.

???  There is a pediatric dentist here in Sanford.  But I'm just going to take DD to our regular dentist, since the pediatric one doesn't take our insurance.

My dentist said to bring her in sometime around age 3.  The kid needs to be able to sit still and open her mouth on command, otherwise all the dentist/hygienist will do is talk to the parents about dental hygiene.
