Re: target debt card

  • My mom has it and hasn't mentioned any problems/cons. (Not that she reads the fine print very well) She doesn't even own a credit card and is really against them-so I'm guessing she wouldn't have signed up if she didn't think that it was a good deal.

  • The only cons I've heard of is that it takes a bit longer for the charges to pull out of your main account, but that doesn't seem like that big of a deal. If you shop at Target a lot, I think the savings/rewards would be worth it!

  • I just have the regular credit card (not the Visa or the debit, just the Target card) and it's great!  You get 5% off all your purchases and I pay it off every month.  No catches at all.

  • No catch - I love it! I had the credit card once upon a time, but am glad they have the debit option now because it's easier to control myself. ;)

  • I have the Target Visa card.  I like the savings it gives us, and we pay it off each month.  It's also our only Visa card, to go with our Discover card, so that's helpful to use in places that won't use the Discover.  I like it-DH pays it online, and has never complained about the payment process.  In the beginning he complained about the website being a bit unfriendly, but that was at least a year ago, so I'm not sure if that's still valid.

  • I have the Debit Card - Love it.

  • Every time I go to Target (which is a lot - we're just a couple blocks from100th) I drool over the 5% savings and calculate how much I would have saved. DH and I both have one credit card though so I'm not sure if I can justify another card. (Mine gives me 5% back on groceries and gas.)

Do you get any other deals in the mail if you have the card?

I just signed up last week so I'm not sure about deals; in fact, I haven't even received our card yet. If you get the debit card, it's tied to your checking account. It isn't like a credit card where it is on your credit report if that helps.

  • I'm not totally sure, but I feel like I've been getting lots of baby/toddler coupons since having Will, and other household coupon books as well, before Will-I've had the card since 2004.  They're usually for things I use, so I imagine they're tracking my purchases.  just not sure if that's specific to the Target card, or any one using a CC there.  We also have a Discover, which gives us a % back on everything, but DH was into this card, so I don't fight it.  :)

Not sure if this is a bonus or not, but it makes it easier to track how much I spend there, as that's one of my worst places for going overboard.  It does work a bit though, as I know I can "hide" a large purchase on my Discover easier at HyVee, and DH won't question, but a large purchase on the Target card is only at Target, and will have to be justified to DH, the keeper of our finances.

  • I do have to LOL a little at the typo in the title - Target "Debt" Card - because that's exactly what Target will do to me if I'm not careful!  I had to start really tracking my receipts there.  My grocery line in my budget started to creep up to $1000/month in November/December because it included all the other (non-food) crap I buy at Target, too.

  • I have it and love it! Just got it about a month ago, I figured, why not? If you're going to shop at Target anyways, which I do all the time, then you might as well save an extra 5%.  It does take a few days for the purchases to post and come out of your checking account though.
