sh!t sh!t sh!t sh!t sh!t ( vent and discussion )

f_ck.

so DHs company that he is currently with has been dragging their feet in getting us to move to NC - originally it was 2012/2013 then in December it was 6 month ( so sometime in 2011 )

today, they said they aren't sure.

in the mean time...

DH was offered a job at another company for twice and a half the pay, longer hours but there are no weekends or travel but most importantly, we have no option of moving.

so he is leaving the choice to me.

this really sucks.  he is going to a formal interview ( he was offered a job over an informal phone discussion )  I told him he always has the option of saying no, and negotiating the hell out of some deals ... ugh.

what is a girl to do ?

i would love to move to NC ( we'd be closer to family and we just really don't want children in this area ) but I really don't want to leave our friends plus we aren't sure about the $8K home buyers tax credit ( paying back and such )

Re: sh!t sh!t sh!t sh!t sh!t ( vent and discussion )

  • Wait, the other company with 2.5 x's the pay is based where?
    imageimageimage
  • Is the new position something he might be able to move around with in the future?
  • @Marcy -- the new company is where we are now ( well in DC but he can ride VRE or Metro in and save the gas )

@Vikki - he wouldn't be able to move us to SC or NC, but he figures in two years he'll be able to get a PMP ( project manager professional ) certification and that could help us move South

  • If your original plan was to go in 2012/2013, it may be worth it, you could save the money and if you have to pay back the $8k you would be able to.
  • I say he seriously considers taking the job. I know you were excited about moving, but 2.5x the pay is a big pay increase. And didn't you mention wanting to stay home? That would make it a lot easier for you to do so. Plus you could save some money and then in a few years, who knows what? Maybe he finds a new position in NC anyway.

    and that's what I'm thinking.

i said " its a hard decision, but its not " its pretty obvious the better decision is to stay here ... but I totally found a house that I love in NC ! drats.

  • The other big question is, would you rather be closer to friends or family?

I agree. I'd look at it as a short term set-back for your plans to move and in the meantime, you'll make huge gains for what you want in the future.

2.5x the pay??? Are they still hiring? Stick out tongue

And didn't you mention wanting to stay home?

thats what he says - we can continue to live how we do now ( act like he isn't making any additional money ) and just put everything else in savings.

then when we move I will be able to stay home and " pop out babies " as he says.

This really sounds like a great plan. That's a LOT of money you could put into savings. I'm all for him taking the new job.

    lol @ "pop out babies"

Realistically though, he has a good point.  Short-term sacrifice for your long-term goal.

evidently i'm a 12-year-old boy today bc i'm lmao that melissa used jizz in a sentence.

  • OH no.  I'm with everybody else.  A lot can change in 2 years.  I'm with the theory of just living on his current salary and saving the rest for the future.  If you do that, I recommend a direct debit to the savings starting the second cheque so you don't even "see" the money.

To nay-say a bit here, are you sure the longer hours would be OK with you???
