Book rec, please. (inspirational/Christian)

Seriously, if it's not one thing with my family, it's another.  My grandmother decided to learn how to play tennis late last week, and during her lesson she fell and broke one of her vertebrae.  Needless to say, she is not going to be very mobile for awhile.

She likes to read, so I would like to send her a good book.  I know that she particularly enjoys books with an inspirational or Christian bent.  (She's Lutheran if it makes a difference.)

Do you guys have any book suggestions?  Maybe one that was recently released in order to minimize the chance that she's already read it?

Otherwise, I think I'll just send her an Amazon gift card.

  • I can recommend   The Shack  by William P. Young
  • What about something by Anne Lamont? I read Traveling Mercies by her and liked it.  But it is a few years old.  I know she has a new nonfiction out, but I don't know anything about it.

Oooh, I loved that one. She's probably read it though if she's really into Christian literature. Maybe something from Rob Bell?

  • I couldn't think of it earlier but maybe   The Walk Series by Richard Paul Evans.
  • I really enjoy the Amish set novels by Beverly Lewis.  She has a couple of newer series out right now.  I'm Brethren though, so I have a long ago connection to the Amish that I appreciate reading about, even in fictional form.  I know other protestant denominations are not as tolerant of Amish ideals, so even though the books are very tasteful & based on spirituality, it might not work for everyone.
  • Usually lurk as I don't have much time to post but happened to see this tonight in a reasonable amount of time to answer. Smile

DH and I got a book called Heaven is for Real for his grandma for her birthday last month and she loved it. Devoured it in about two days. My MIL is reading it now and it's got stellar reviews on Amazon. We got it at Woodland's Barnes and Noble and it was selling fast. Link here

I bought this one on my lunch hour.  Hopefully she likes it.

    Thanks for the suggestions, everyone!

  • Anything by Francine Rivers is great!  Redeeming Love is her most popular book, but it's a bit older.  She just came out with 2 books last year that were really good, they are sequels, called Her Daughter's Dream and Her Mother's Hope.
