Prayers and advice please

I found out late this afternoon that my girlfriend's mom passed away this morning.  She's was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2009 and it was pretty bad.  I haven't actually talked to my GF since NYE (I think), so I didn't know it had progressed even worse.  Please say a prayer for my friend and her sibblings.  Their parents were divorced and they are not that close to their dad.

Also, I want to send them something or do something.  Any suggestions?  They are a VERY small family (mom had 1 brother). I briefly mentioned something to DH but he didn't have any suggestions.

Re: Prayers and advice please

  • Tons of vibes and prayers for them.

I'm never sure what to send/give but maybe food?

  • That's so tough.  Like my uncle said when he lost his mom to Alzheimer's "it's like you lose them twice"  Hopefully they are comforted knowing that she is no longer suffering.

If you live near her, I would suggest food also.  Otherwise, maybe see if they are doing "donations in lieu of flowers" and go that route.

Tons of prayers being sent their way!

  • Many thoughts and prayers to her family! Cancer sucks!

Definitely a card.  Do you know if they have set up any donations to colon cancer awareness or research?  This seems to be pretty common for cancer victims, and I always like giving to causes, especially in honor of a friend or family member.  I also like the idea of food if you are close.

  • Sending lots of prayers and healing vibes her way!

If you knew her mom, a card like Margaret said, with a brief note reflecting on what you remember about her or a story of something nice she did for you? I kept all the emails and cards from when my mom passed away and I loved reading nice things people said about her. If you didn't know her well the donation route would be more appropriate.

  • I HATE CANCER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Prayers and vibes headed her way. I agree that a donation would be a lovely thing to do, and a card.
  • ditto everyone else....a basket of fruit, a tray of cookies, a dozen bagels, would all be good gifts since they are all too occupied to eat these days.  i also like the idea of a donation in her name....your friend would really appreciate that!

    what a sad story :(
