Baby shower...

I am going to a baby shower next weekend. It's for DH's friednd's wife who is having twins. We see them about 3-4 times a year. I have an issue with over spending on gifts so I am trying to wrangle it in a little but then I feel cheap. Her family is extremely wealthy and it seems as though they have picked up most of the big stuff (and there is still 2 weeks left to buy) So, should I go for a case of diapers, a case of wipes and 2 cute outfits

or some bottles, bottle accessories and two cute outfits

or a bouncy seat and 2 cute outfits

OR a bunch of cute outfits not on their registry?

Decisions decisions...

Re: Baby shower...

  • I do the same thing...always overspend because I feel cheap otherwise!

I haven't actually had my baby yet so I don't know what's actually most practical, but if someone wanted to buy one of these things for me, I would choose either the diapers or bottles.

But that's just because I'm not a fan of bouncy seats (partly because I have a dog who would constantly be licking the baby in the face, and partly because I want to hold my baby as often as I can, so it wouldn't get much use at my house).  I also feel like you should buy something off of their registry, even if you want to get a couple of outfits as "accessories" to the gift (although that's not really necessary...I would be happy with just the gift off the registry, and would be surprised if someone bought more).

How's that for a long answer?

  • Ha! That works! Luckily she has 2344687638543243654 cut outfits on the registry to choose from too.
  • I would go bouncy seat.  It'll be difficult to hold both babies, and while I don't have a baby, my sister found the bouncy chair to be one of her favourite things.

I obviously missed the twin part of the original post!  So maybe if I were in that situation, I would have a different view of the bouncy seat!  Might be worthwhile!

Really, any of it would probably be very much appreciated and needed.  Before I got pregnant and realized JUST how much diapers cost, I always thought it was kind of a cheesy shower gift, but now that I realize how many they go through and how much they are, I think it's one of the best gifts!

Side note: we plan to cloth diaper so we don't have to deal with all of those additional costs!

My parents used cloth diapers on me, and I think that may be the reason that I am now allergic to low-grade elastics, since I was not exposed to them as a child. (I can only wear expensive bras/panties - the department store ones leave welts wherever the elastic touches my skin, and I can't use store brand ace bandages).

But it could just be me... I have a ton of allergies, and they are all uncommon - like Benadryl!

Really?  I've never heard of this before.  There are a lot of benefits to using cloth diapers, other than just the cost.

I know they are much different now than they were thirty years ago, so if that was a concern then, perhaps it isn't with the new cloth diapers?

What can I say... I'm special! LOL

I am sure Carter will be fine with cloth diapers, and if I were to have kids I would probably do cloths also... Way more economical and better for the environment.

  • I like the idea of the bouncy seat. We never registered for one and actually didnt plan on getting one because I thought that we would make do and hold her but that thing ended up being a life saver. Logan had awful acid reflux and that chair was one of the few places that she could sit/sleep comfortably.  It was also just great to have so Mike and I could sit down to dinner and eat without having her strapped to us, and ours had a little sun shade so it worked really well during the summer when we wanted to sit outside.

And instead of clothes I would maybe just add a giftcard that way they have something for later.
