anyone priced out faux wood 2'' blinds?

We're in the market for every window in our home... and I just wanted to check in and see if anyone had done any preliminary leg work on blinds?

tia.

Re: anyone priced out faux wood 2'' blinds?

  • We did.

The first house we built we did Ikea wood blinds throughout, knowing we'd be upgrading as we went along.  I'd say we averaged $30/ window.  DH had to trim and install them all as well.  Unfortunately they looked cheap and warped pretty fast on sunny windows.  We started replacing them throughout the house, and spent nearly $100/ window for a nice option.

For this house, we priced JCP, Lowes and HD.  JCP's were pretty ridiculous.  HD and Lowes were pretty even, and even a decent deal; Lowes was having a sale at the time.  You just install.  Our builder was about the same price, but they came fully installed so we went that route.

I know you can factor in amortization on putting them on your home loan, but whatev.

Did you ask their builder how much whole-house blinds were?  BIL/ SIL only paid $1k for theirs through the builder!  I know your DH didn't want more upgrades, but you're going to have to pay for blinds either way.

  • No advice, but I love those blinds. I envy my parents - they bought a house two years ago that was only lived in for one year by the previous owners (new construction). The first owners did those blinds on every.single.window in the entire house. They're so beautiful!
  • We put them in our house about three years ago. I dont remember the price but the options/price were best at HomeDepot. We went with the base model/style. DH measured all of our windows, and the people at HD cut them for us, then we brought them home and installed them. SUPER EASY INSTALL!! There were a couple that werent cut the correct length, so we took them back and they gave us new ones at the right length. The back of our house gets alot of direct sun, and they have held up great. And they are very easy to clean. ETA: We went with the base model for several reasons. $$ being number one, and the other models were more detailed, and to me that looked harder to keep clean (less nooks to clean). The top of them are very basic, but if you are planning on using curtains you wouldnt see that part anyways.

  • Check out justblinds.com.  I have used them for our living room and love the way they look.  I just ordered yesterday for 7 windows in our bedroom and gameroom and came out to only $300.  They are very reasonable and look great I think!

On a side note, I was looking at your blog and noticed the granite you picked out for your countertops.  We are in the process of getting ours redone and that is the exact same color I picked, Santa Cecilia!  I am so excited to see how it turns out.

well... your countertops will probably be done waaaay before mine!  So don't forget to share photos for me too!!

  • We bought ours at lowes, they were about 25-30 each, if I remember correctly. We bought the white ones, I can't remember if the dark wood ones were more expensive.

did you have to cut them to size?  We are not handy... and don't even own tools. :(

  • We had a guy come out and give us a free quote last year.  We have 8 windows and 4 half moon windows.  For just the 8 windows he quoted us $1000.  He was very nice and not pushy at all.  He even recommended we stick with our paper fan half moon blinds to save money and to let in more light.

I agree with FCB...JCP was such a rip off.  I went there to get a quote and even when they had 60% off the blinds it came out to more than this other company.

It's been a year since we got the quote so the price may have changed.  We will definitely be calling them back up here soon to see if the prices have change and to hopefully, finally, get some new blinds.

No, we didn't have to cut anything! I *think* they have more sizes online, but we were able to find everything in the store.
