Proud of my husband

He had an exam scheduled for this week that was supposed to test a bunch of technical skills they've been learning in training by similating doing actual tech stuff in a work environment.  The exam was scheduled over several days and it's self-paced.  They said the fastest anyone had completely it was in one and a half days.  He just called to say he finished it already and has beaten the best time out of anyone at State by 2 hours.  I love my nerd.  Geeked

  • Very cool.  What kind of test and does it just matter for time or for how many he gets right?

I think it's a series of tasks.  The kind of things he would have to do in a real world work environment.  He has to complete one before moving on to the next so I don't think there's room for getting things "wrong".  You're not done until everything is done correctly.

I'm very proud of him overall since he started.  He's demonstrated strong technical skills and has taken several voluntary leadership roles and is making a lot of contacts.  They refer to one's "corridor reputation" at State and I think he's done well with his so far.  This is really important b/c after his first two tours, he'll basically have to network and lobby for the posts he wants.  It's best for him to make lots of friends who think highly of his work and no enemies if he can help it or he could be passed up for plum assignments down the road.  I think he'll do well b/c he is insanely smart (my completely unbiased opinion Wink) but he also has great people skills and is very articulate- something that many people in the IT world are not.
