tax questions for those who file via snail mail...
sorry to be a total dummy...
do i file my VT seperately than my CA and my federal? it looks like i send each state to a different place (http://www.irs.gov/file/content/0,,id=105693,00.html) but i am not sure? and i am not sure where to send the federal one to? i am really confused...
and if i file via snail mail, it is free, right?
and where do i indicate that we would like our money back as a direct deposit? is there a certain form i need to print for that?
like i said, my cousin prepared our taxes for us, they are all printed out etc, i just need to mail them, but there was nothing on there about how we wanted our refund back...
HELP!
Re: tax questions for those who file via snail mail...
Shauni, on the last page of the tax return, it should have a section to fill out if you are expecting a refund and want it to be direct deposited. Look just about a quarter of the page above where you sign.
And yes, you have to send the state tax returns in to those states; look at the website for their tax authority. Hopefully next year will be easier, since you'll have been in VT the whole time.
It's definitely free to do snail mail. I know CA has free e-file if your income is under a certain amount, but if you want to just make it easier, I'd just mail it in.
Also, there's a place on the IRS website (main page, click 'where's my refund') to check the progress, once you've given them time to receive your return. It's pretty cool - you enter your SSN and whole dollar refund amount, and it tells you when they expect to process it to you.
thank you, i will look at this tonight when i get home!
SO STRESSFUL.
