Hello and a question.

This is my first time posting on this board so I wanted to say hello and ask a question.

I want to start looking for another job but need to put a job title on my resume but I don't know what my job title is.  I've never been giving an official job title and when our former GM left, I inherited many of her job duties.  Here are some of the duties I'm in charge of:

- Purchasing

- Payroll/ Benefits

- Process Orders

- Process returns/exchanges

- A/R

- Assist Bookkeeper with A/P

- Handle any problems with orders (UPS damage, wrong parts sent to customer, etc.)

- Answer phones

- Sales of Motorcycle Parts which I have no idea what part goes where

- Handle any office related issues that come up (heater not working, etc.)

Any ideas on what my job title is?

Re: Hello and a question.

  • There's no one else at your place of work who could help you sort this out?

What was your GM's title? GM? Could you be an assistant/associate GM? What was your job title at your last job, if it was related?

Note that these are more rhetorical questions, not something you have to answer in a post unless you want to.

  • I did a lot of those kinds of tasks when I worked at a radio station (minus selling motorcycle parts of course!) and the title that was given to me was Office Manager.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too.

I'm personally wary of using Office Manager.  In my industry (consulting) it's a glorified term for admin assistant or facilities manager, and the purchasing, bookkeeping, and supply functions would carry more value.  It depends on what you're putting your resume together for, I suppose.
