Old news.. but what was your Wedding Song?
I'm feeling sentimental this morning as today is my 5 month mark so I have my wedding song on repeat and I emailed the link to Mike along with a random pic of us from the wedding.
So it got me thinking, since I didn't play much on TK.. what was everyone's wedding song? Link? And why? The words, first song you danced to, etc.
Re: Old news.. but what was your Wedding Song?
We had a tough time with this because we didn't really have a song, and the first song we danced to was "Fools Rush In" by Elvis, but we didn't care for the words and didn't want a song that 3567 people had as their song either. Then we stumbled across this song and the words fit us perfectly. Everyone asked us after our dance what the song was and told us how beautiful and fitting the words were for he and I.
Tom Baxter - Better
ETA - Don't mind the freak-flag video lol
Our song was an oldie... "Truly, Madly, Deeply" by Savage Garden.
We ended up not having any dancing at the wedding because of restrictions at the venue, but it is still our song
My SIL (my brother's wife) had a print made for us for our shower, she ordered it from Etsy and it is the cutest thing... It is black and white with a tree that has "Megan + Steve" on the trunk, some stars and hearts, and the words Truly Madly Deeply in the sky. It is one of my favorite gifts that we received!

TTC Since January 2011 - We have bad spermOur first dance song was Then by Brad Paisley (remember we're in Texas!). I know it's probably been played at a million other weddings, but the first time I ever heard it (before we were engaged), I said that would be our wedding song, and it was!
We wanted to use Long Way to Mexico by Roger Creager as our exit song, but the DJ forgot it, and talked us into something else. Not the end of the world, but I was a little disappointed.
Megan & Chris
Our first dance song is one that 3,452,856,237 other couple's chose as well. But, it didn't matter to us because it is simply divine and has meaning to us. We took ballroom dance lessons for about a month before and had a beautifully coordinated routine. It was one of the highlights of the day for me.
"At Last" by Etta James: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVI254QGSQ4
We also had a friend of ours from church perform one of "our songs" during the unity candle ceremony. It is not mainstream, but it is from the soundtrack to our our favorite movie "Fireproof". It is called "Love is Not a Fight" by Warren Barfield. The lyrics are perfection! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rwK73QbNPKo

Our song was Jack Johnson- Better Together
It was our first dance, and it has always been "our" song. Oh and Jack Johnson is awesome. I seriously debated just buying tickets to one of his shows down in Hawaii, or the south, but luckily he came to CT last year.
....and he played with G love which made the concert even better.
We danced to a traditional (albeit modern version) of a Finnish wedding waltz. I translated it, and was going to provide a copy for everyone at the wedding so they would understand, and realised that I didn't care if anyone else understood what it meant. I had translated it for hubby when I first heard it, and he and both understood it, so that was enough. My photographer, who also happened to be finnish, was so moved by it. And some of my family understood it. But Matt's nan said the sweetest thing when she said, "it needed no translation. We all understood.". Awww!

Our first dance was to Pearl Jam's cover of "Can't Help Falling In Love." We both love Pearl Jam, but they don't exactly have first dance appropriate songs. So this was win-win-win. And we used the song we consider our song for the cake cutting, Rivers Cuomo "I Was Made for You." We would have used it for the first dance, but it was 3 1/2 minutes versus just over 2 minutes, and I thought that was long enough for people to stand around and watch the high school sway.
But I think my favorite part of our wedding was our ceremony exit, to Linus and Lucy (aka the Peanuts song). We'd only told a couple of people that we were using it, or thinking of using it, so everyone just burst into applause and laughter when it started. It's such a happy song. My husband wanted to Snoopy dance up the aisle, but I talked him out of it.
My musician cousin who just got married danced to Paramour -- You are the only exception wit his new wife. Their friends played it, and the girl kept crying and could hardly sing. So his wife sang and dance at the same time. It was so sweet.
That sounds beautiful. We needs pics, asap! lol
We danced to Could I Have This Dance - one of my friends sung it for us at the wedding, but if you've ever heard it, it was probably Anne Murrah singing it. Here are the lyrics.
---------------------
I'll always remember the song they were playing
The first time we danced and I knew
As we swayed to the music and held to each other
I fell in love with you
Could I have this dance for the rest of my life
Would you be my partner then every night
When we're together it feels so right
Could I have this dance for the rest of my life
I'll always remember that magic moment
When I held you close to me
Cause we move together I know forever
You're all I'll ever need
Could I have this dance for the rest of my life
Would you be my partner then every night
When we're together it feels so right
Could I have this dance for the rest of my life
Could I have this dance for the rest of my life
Would you be my partner then every night
When we're together it feels so right
Could I have this dance for the rest of my life
Missing our little turkey.
Estimated Due Date 11/13/12 | Natural Miscarriage 4/17/12
Ours was Forever Young sang by Bob Dylan.
This was the only thing DH was really adament about and he cried the first time he heard it, so I let him choose it. I just made sure to have Everything by Michael Buble as the final song of the evening
I love Forever Young though, we've made a lot of inside jokes about the various lines of the song.

DMB- You & Me... looove this song and it really speaks to "us" as a couple. My mom bought us tickets to see them at CitiField over the summer and they played our song, and all these couples got up and danced, it was so sweet.
Lyrics:
Wanna pack your bags, something small
Take what you need and we'll dissappear
Without a trace, we'll be gone gone
The moon and the stars will follow the car
And then when we get to the ocean
Gonna take a boat to the end of the world
All the way to the end of the world...
Oh and when the kids are old enough
We're gonna teach them to fly....
You and me together, we can do anything baby
You and me together, yes yes
You and me together, we can do anything baby
You and me together, yes yes
You and I, we're not tied to the ground
Not falling but rising like rolling around
Eyes closed above the roof tops
Eyes clothes, we're gonna spin through the stars
Our arms wide as the sky
We're gonna ride the blue, all the way to the end of the world
To the end of the world
Oh and when the kids are old enough
We're gonna teach them to fly....
You and me together, we can do anything baby
You and me together, yes yes
You and me together, we can do anything baby
You and me together, yes yes
We can always look back at what we did
All these memories of you and me baby
But right now it's you and me forever girl
And you know that we can do better than anything that we did
You know that you and me we can do anything
You and me together, we can do anything baby
You and me together, yeah yeah
Two of us together, we can do anything baby
You and me together, yeah yeah
Two of us together, yeah yeah
Two of us together, we can do anything baby
The sun is swollen, until we reach the end of the world
I actually don't have a pic of it yet (my aunt that hosted our second shower never gave me any pics she took, the biotch! LOL j/k)
I will try to remember to snap a pic of it tonight. It is in our hallway above the table that has our cake topper and some wedding pics on it.
Actually, I need to upload pics of several of my recent crafts as well.
So expect some pictures tomorrow
Keith Urban's "Only you can love me this way"
But hands down...my favorite moment is our DJ playing Guster's "do you love me". it was the opening song after toasts at dinner, and then she played it at like 11pm when it was just us and a handful of people left dancing and talking....its just me and jeremy on the dance floor and we danced to it again
like i said...our dj was freakin amazing
Getting fit for IVF!
Our song was Paul McCartney's "This Never Happened Before"
Ours was Ben Fold's The Luckiest.
We loved the lyrics and we love Ben Folds so....
I don't get many things right the first time
In fact, I am told that a lot
Now I know all the wrong turns, the stumbles and falls
Brought me here
And where was I before the day
That I first saw your lovely face?
Now I see it everyday
And I know
That I am
I am
I am
The luckiest
What if I'd been born fifty years before you
In a house on a street where you lived?
Maybe I'd be outside as you passed on your bike
Would I know?
And in a white sea of eyes
I see one pair that I recognize
And I know
That I am
I am
I am
The luckiest
I love you more than I have ever found a way to say to you
Next door there's an old man who lived to his nineties
And one day passed away in his sleep
And his wife; she stayed for a couple of days
And passed away
I'm sorry, I know that's a strange way to tell you that I know we belong
That I know
That I am
I am
I am
The luckiest
So did we! Was yours the actual Jason Mraz version, or someone else singing it? Ours was one of the singers from our wedding band. It was just one guy on an acoustic guitar & I LOVED it. He played quiet, pretty music through the whole ceremony.
Our first dance song was "Faithfully" by Journey, but again, performed by our band. I can't say enough nice things about our band. They were incredible. And they actually learned a song just for us. Clinton is obsessed with this Sam Hart song called "Mario Kart Love Song." It's super dorky & super us. I love the lyrics & it's adorable, but I didn't know how everyone else would react to it. But the band did an unbelievably cute version of it. Everyone danced & it was perfect.

What's LittleMissNewlywed Cooking?
I tried to do a DMB song, but he wouldn't do it.
Musically inclined people that we are, we naturally have a lot of musically inclined friends and family, so there was a lot of music at our wedding. A whole lot.
Processional was "1,2,3,4" by the Plain White T's, sung by a couple who are friends of ours, who were coincidentally celebrating their 3 month wedding anniversary on the same day. I wish like hell that I had gotten video. It was incredible. (Link to the Youtube video with lyrics here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y9u3c65LHIY , in case you've been living under a rock and haven't heard this song) We chose this song because it was popular when we first started dating, and, while we never considered it "our song", it pretty well sums up our relationship. We also chose it because our friends were both familiar with the song and it shows off our friend Thomas' mad acoustic guitar skills. This is still my phone's ring tone for Ron, and it makes me smile every time he calls.
Both of my biological daughters were musical soloists. My oldest daughter sang "God Bless The Broken Road" by Rascal Flatts
(Link here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZp6pmgbZyU), which was chosen because there has never been a more perfect song written to describe exactly how we feel about each other. My bridesmaids were all pushing for me to sing it to Ron myself, but I have never been able to listen to it without tearing up, and I still can't, so I let Heather do the honors.
I was extremely surprised when my daughter Hannah said she wanted to do a solo, too. Most of you know she's Deaf, and she usually shies away from calling attention to that. I gave her a list of songs we wanted to play, and she chose to interpret "True Companion" by Marc Cohn (this is a typical "wedding" song, but in case you haven't heard it, here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sp6zoc84NcU).
Cool story about this performance: my mom had the lyric scrolling set up on a laptop, so Hannah could stay in sync with the music. Well, the laptop started about 3 lines behind the time that the sound tech started the song, so she was signing a good bit behind the music. We didn't worry too much about it, since most of our audience wasn't Deaf and wouldn't know the difference, but when the audio stopped, my daughter kept going, and you could just barely hear her half-singing the lyrics under her breath as she signed. The crazy part was, she was actually on pitch! There wasn't a dry eye in the place, and only one c*nty guest that we didn't really want there anyway had anything less than wonderful things to say about it.
And finally, the recessional: "I'll Cover You", from (of course) the musical "RENT". Anyone who knows me knows I'm a huge RENThead, so it was only logical that I would fit a RENT song in there somewhere, and this was the only song from the soundtrack that made any sense for a wedding.
(You guessed it, there's a link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJ6SCOUOrvE)
Ron was not overly sold on the idea of a love song between two men being our recessional, but he let me have it just because he loves me.
There were a whole bunch of other songs on a playlist that I made to play as people were being seated, all of which had some sort of special meaning to us, but this post has been way too long already, so I won't bore you with those too.
Our song is Come on get Higher by Matt Nathanson, I walked down the aisle to a piano version of it.
Our first dance was to Crazy Love by Michael Buble.
We lit our unity candle to Carrie Underwood's "Mama's Song" which was sang by one of my friends, and she was amazing!!
Our first dace was to a song from the movie Anastasia called "At the Beginning" here is the youtube video with subtitles http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLfFOCfAlIc
I love all of the songs from this movie and this totally explains our relationship and the long road that we both went down to find each other and how we found each other at the beginning but had to go down a journey to get back to each other. Perfect for us!
Our last dance was Keith Urban "Only you can love me this way."
Ours was "Bless the Broken Road" by Rascal Flatts. It was special to us because our relationship was really rocky for a while, we both hurt each other a lot in the beginning, and it just means so much to both of us that we figured out what was really important in life and eventually made it back to one another.
I set out on a narrow way, many years ago
Hoping I would find true love along the broken road
But I got lost a time or two
Wiped my brow and kept pushing through
I couldn't see how every sign pointed straight to you
Every long lost dream led me to where you are
Others who broke my heart, they were like northern stars
Pointing me on my way into your loving arms
This much I know is true
That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you
I think about the years I spent, just passing through
I'd like to have the time I lost, and give it back to you
But you just smile and take my hand
You've been there, you understand
It's all part of a grander plan that is coming true
Every long lost dream led me to where you are
Others who broke my heart, they were like northern stars
Pointing me on my way into your loving arms
This much I know is true
That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you
But now I'm just rolling home into my lover's arms
This much I know is true
That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you
Yay! We're song twins! Yep, I'm a goober.
Mike and I had actually never danced together before our wedding. Our tastes in music are completely different ( he likes death metal , I am like indie and pop) so we went through a million songs before we found one that really made sense and was how we felt.
We ended up choosing Joshua Radin's version of You Got What I Need.
Video
Baby you, you got what I need
Baby you, you got my sunshine
Baby you, you got what I need
Baby you, you got my sunshine
When I see you it's a beautiful world
But when you're gone, I want you in my arms
I'm telling you the last time
Baby you, you got what I need
Baby you, you got my sunshine
Every night I notice you're all alone
Wonder you might
Let me love you I'm on fire
[| From: http://www.elyrics.net/read/j/joshua-radin-lyrics/you-got-what-i-need-lyrics.html |]
Can't you feel my desire
I want to take you higher
It's a simplest thing,
Always so hard to see
I want to be
The one and only making you feel love
Oh darling I need love
It's all I can dream of
Baby you, you got what I need
Baby you, you got my sunshine
Baby you, you got what I need
Baby you, you got my sunshine
You got my sunshine
Me and Mike had never really danced together before the wedding either, we can agree on almost all of the same music, but country he can't stand it. I love it. So picking "our song" for first dance was kind a hard one for us, We went with Billie Holiday "crazy he calls me" we Also stuck with the Jazz theme for our mother son dance and father daughter dance.
it's one of our favorite Billie Holiday songs, It's also one of the songs on our favorite xbox game to play.
I say I'll move the mountains
And I'll move the mountains
If he wants them out of the way
Crazy he calls me
Sure I'm crazy
Crazy in love I'd say
I say I'll go through fire
And I'll go through fire
As he wants it so it will be
Crazy he calls me
Sure I'm crazy
Crazy in love you see
Like the wind that shakes the bough
Like the wind that shakes the boughHe moves me with a smile
The difficult I'll do right now
The impossible will take a little while
I say I'll care forever
And I mean forever
If I have to hold up the sky
Crazy he calls me
Sure I'm crazy
Crazy in love am I
He moves me with a smile
The difficult I'll do right now
The impossible will take a little while
I say I'll care forever
And I mean forever
If I have to hold up the sky
Crazy he calls me
Sure I'm crazy
Crazy in love am I
I'm a music nut and went through a ton of songs before picking. DH has bad taste in music and didnt care either way. I ended up choosing Make you feel my love by Adele. Her voice is amazing and I love this song. The other option was Marry me by Bruno Mars but some of the lyrics were iffy...
When the rain is blowing in your faceAnd the whole world is on your caseI could offer you a warm embraceTo make you feel my love When the evening shadows and the stars appearAnd there is no one there to dry your tearsI could hold you for a million yearsTo make you feel my love I know you haven't made your mind up yetBut i would never do you wrongI've known it from the moment that we metNo doubt in my mind where you belongI'd go hungry i'd go black and blueI'd go crawling down the avenueNo there's nothing that i wouldn't doTo make you feel my love The storms are raging on the rolling seaAnd on the highway of regretThough winds of change are blowing wild and freeYou ain't seen nothing like me yet I could make you happy make your dreams come trueNothing that i wouldn't doGo to the ends of the earth for youTo make you feel my love
To make you feel my love
