Cross-Country Move: When to start looking for work?
My soon-to-be hubby and I are moving from Alaska to New England (most likely VT or NH) in September. When should I start searching for jobs online? Should I start submitting applications and resumes about a month before hand, so I can be there for a face-to-face interview? Thoughts please!
Re: Cross-Country Move: When to start looking for work?
My husband and I actually just moved to New Hampshire from California about 1.5 months ago. I waited until I had a local address to start job-hunting. I found employment within a couple of weeks, but your experience may differ depending on your industry. I found NH's job match system (a state-run employment search aid that matches you with jobs that fit your profile) to be very helpful.
Good luck!

You can start making a list of local employers now. You know, the ones you would like to apply with this summer/when you are in NE.
I would also suggest "stalking" the online employment ads. When I moved cross country I followed the employment section of the newspaper online. I quickly found out which companies were always hiring for the same positions over and over and over. It was a red flag to me that something wasn't right. Now that I am in the area, I know why.
You can also start connecting up on Linked In and figuring out any local organizations (Young Professionals or such) to join when you get there.
