Please read the book "From Panic to Power", and make your DH read it to (or at least give him a book report!). I could have written the exact post you wrote for WTF Wednesday a year ago. I was even miserable buying my wedding dress and during our food tasting due to anxiety/panic attacks. It was horrible. My mom encouraged me to see a doctor and get on meds, which I did not want to do. I found this book and read the entire thing in like 2 days. It really explains what your brain goes through when you're panicing, and how to control it. Once I understood what was going on, I could explain it to DH and tell him what he could do to help me instead of just accusing me of being overdramatic or getting frustrated. It seriously changed my life, TRY IT!
Re: *Barb*
I am seriously in tears. Thank you SO much. I'm glad somebody can understand it. It is so hard because everybody tells me just to go .. get on meds. That is the LAST thing I want to do.
That is exactly what DH says..I'm being over dramatic. Thank you SOOOOOO much. I'm downloading it for Kindle today.
It sure does feel good to know I'm not alone. Some of my biggest worries have to do with my home. I'm always afraid that when I'm alone someone will come in (or already have been in and hiding). So with that, I double, triple, quadrouple check everything. That the garage is closed, the doors are locked ect. I even have to turn around when I leave in the morning to make sure I closed the garage door.
I hate it, and have tried to stop myself...but it isn't worth the heart-racing feeling I get.
I freaking love this board.
I do this too! Thanks for the book suggestion Rachel, I will definitely look into this too!

I am not someone who can keep things to myself so when I've had panic attacks around my friends or at work I say so. Every time I've said something, like 3 people have popped out of the woodwork and been like omg I get them too!!!! It's definitely a normal thing, and it's definitely controllable w/out meds. You will read some stories in that book of people who are wayyyy worse off than you, and they've been able to manage their anxiety without pills. I think the author even has workbooks and audio tapes if you like her book but think you need a little bit more.
I also want to reiterate how important it is to have your DH read the book as well, or to explain it to him. I know I said this already, but Adam went from being so obnoxious and unsympathetic about this to being superhusband, just by understand what goes on in your head. If DH understands the tools you should use when you're feeling anxiety, then he can remind you when you're too shaken up to implement it.
Okay I'm done - I hope this helps you!!!
@Rach: WTG! It's awesome that you are able to help the other girls out!
