Hi everyone!
Just wanted to check in and say hello!
We are all doing really well! Robert (our ds) was born 3.2.11 at 4:22am. Our birth did not go as planned, but we are so happy with our beautiful baby.
He is 7lbs 15oz and 20 inches long with lots of hair.
My water broke on 3.1 at 3:30 and was checked into the hospital and settled by about 5:30. My contractions started to steady and baby and I were handling them great. At about 9:30pm I was still only 3cms and they started talking pitocin and I freaked out asked to hold off. About 30mins later my nurse came in because she wanted to change my monitor to pick up the babys heartbeat. After a few minutes I could tell she was a bit panicked and called for another nurse. Next thing I knew my room was filled with nurses and my dr all running around the room trying different ways to find the babys heartbeat. I also started having horrible pain, felt so sick and thought I was going to pass out. I knew something wasn't right and my dr told me I needed to have a csection immediately because they couldn't find any heartbeat. I was prepped ready to go to the OR and all the sudden he came back on the monitor. It was a huge relief. My dr waited a few minutes to make sure he was stable.
She checked me a few minutes later and told me I went from 3cm to 7cm in a matter of minutes which is why they think baby reacted so badly and why I went from ok to so bad so quickly. They allowed me to continue to labor on my own and not go through with the csection.
Needless to say my natural birth was out the door by this point, but I was very happy that he was alright. I progressed quickly to 9 and stalled a bit and around 12pm I was 10cm and ready to push.
Needless to say pushing was not as easy as expected. I had full use of my legs and was pretty much able to get up and around into different positions. He had trouble getting passed my hip bone. After over 3hrs of pushing he finally made his arrival and it was amazing! I only have a small tear and I am feeling good and he is doing so well to!
I felt terrible for the girl in the room next to me. She apparently came in after me and was not handling labor well at all. After hearing my dr and nurses screaming push at me for over 3 hours she apparently was freaking out asking for a csection!
We will be going home Friday morning. Dh has been so incredibly amazing! He was so wonderful during the ups and downs of labor and delivery and is so amazing as a dad. You can tell this little boy has immediately become the center of his world.
Robert is doing great bfing and has been sleeping in stretches already. Let's hope that continues when we get home.
We are trying to keep pics off fb for now, but I will send some to you ladies on our arrival home. Our newborn photographer comes Sunday so I should have some great ones then.
Hope everyone is having a great week!
