Tax refunds

Zach and I just did our taxes last night (more Zach than I, I don't know what I'm doing), and found out we're getting a little over $3,000 back! We're planning on using some to take a trip out to CT to visit a friend at Yale (pay for the flight and rental car), get a netbook, and use the rest on his school loans. What are you using yours on?

Re: Tax refunds

  • Paying off DH's car loan and TTC fund!

  • We only got $1800 back so we are saving that for a down-payment on a house.
  • we're getting about $2,000 back, were using part as a down payment on a newer car. I've got an 01 honda and we just sold his 87' firebird (about time!) so it's time for something new! and part of it to pay off my credit card.

  • We are getting $4k

We each get $250 "spending money", $500 towards flights wedding in FL and $3K into savings

  • We also got about $3,000 back - biggest refund I have EVER gotten!

We got a 42' plasma HD TV and new entertainment center, 4 new tires and oil change on my car, new starter for Steve's car, paid some extra on Steve's credit card, paid off some medical bills for me, and saved the rest, which unfortunately was only $600. (we were hoping to save about $1000, but it was good to get some stuff paid off)

  • I don't get much back, usually $300-400.  It'll go towards paint, or curtains, or moving expenses, etc.

  • We have to use about 1/3 of our federal refund to pay city taxes.  My employer doesn't take taxes out for any locality so I don't even have reciprocity like DH.

The rest is paying for our flights to Hawaii for our mandatory family vacation.  There are soooooo many other things we could use it on (you'll see when you see our digs tomorrow).  Poor timing for MIL to plan a trip.

This is really ideal though!  It means the gov. isn't using your money interest-free through the year.  We need to update our withholdings so that we don't get such a large refund

  • We will actually owe. Mike is self-employed and has investments so we pay quarterly. A plus though is that because we are now married and have L the amount we pay wont be nearly as much.

  • Yeah, we have our withholdings adjusted so that we don't get much back.  But, what we did get will be put in savings, minus the $200 I am using to get my IPhone.  :-D

    Missing our little turkey.

  • We are getting around $3500 that should hit the account by the end of next week.  We have a few small things we plan to use it for then around $2500 to savings.

Funny, I remember the ridiculous things I spent my refund on in the past since I needed them..  a bunch of new shirts for nights at the bars and totally needed that coat that's on sale and some new bikinis.  Ugh, to be young lol

Not sure how much we're getting back yet, but the majority of it is going towards DH's stupid student loans. Ugh I hope he gets them paid off soon. The other portion I plan on using to make a larger mortgage payment.

Lol...I'm planning on getting a new iPod nano and earrings w/my "spending $" portion of our refund
  • Hoping to put $1K in savings, promised DH the PS3 he's wanted for 2 years, and the rest will go towards bills.

It helps that I work for the government and they've got the amount of tax people pay down to an exact science.

I miss my University days when I got $2000-4000 back and could just have fun with it!

  • We will not be getting a refund because my husband is an independent contractor/self-employed.  This is definitely a first for me...oh how I miss the days when I got refunds...

  • We are getting about $4K back and I will be paying off my ring with part of it and our credit card (aka my new diamond earrings from Jamaica) with the rest. I am spoiled, I know, and I have no problem admitting it.

  • We're getting $3200 back, already got $1200 of that back.  We plan to pay back people we owe from when I was unemployed, put some in savings, and let ourselves enjoy a tiny bit of it, ie being able to go out to eat with our friends or something along those lines since we never ever go out because money is tight.
