Your favorite special occassion restaurant in the bay area?
DH starts a new job in a couple weeks and we want to go out to celebrate. We have reservations at Alexander's but it sounds like he might be going there with his friends tomorrow night so I want to do something different. Any suggestions?

Re: Your favorite special occassion restaurant in the bay area?
We love Arcadia in downtown SJ. Runner-up: Forbes Mill in LG.
ETA: I just read that you were looking for something different from Alexanders, and I just suggested two steak places. My apologies. I'll keep thinking.
I always hear raves for Gary Danko.
I like Roy's too, which it's not quite as upscale as Gary Danko so it depends on what you're looking for.

I love Shadowbrook! We used to go for special occasions when I was little. I loved riding the tram.
Trader Vic's in Palo Alto
Also in Palo Alto: Straits, Nola's
Capitola: Caffe Bella Roma (small but so- yummy), Paradise Beach Grille, Shadowbrook.
Santa Cruz: Crow's Nest
I haven't been there yet but I've heard great things about Scratch in Mountain View. I like Cascal and Don Giovanni's in MV also.
Now all I can say is...yum! Congrats to your hubby!
Lighthouse State Beach, Santa Cruz.
Tapestry in Los Gatos and La Fondue in Saratoga.
I know some people feel fondue is overrated but I love it because I don't feel any guilt over how I order my food since I get to cook it my own way and no one can judge me for "over cooking" my meat (getting hospitalized over steak will mess with your head and make you never wanna see pink in beef ever again). Besides, I like that I can wear jeans and drink 2 glasses of wine instead of one since you are sitting there for so much longer.
