AW: Just found more "practical" dream home

So DH and I said that we won't get "real" about buying a place until next year...but we've been preapproved for a mortgage, so we have an idea of our price range so we both still look at what's on the market when we're bored.

Look at this beauty I just found:

Great neighbhorhood, close to train, dog park and real park...waiting to DH to respond.

haha, me too!  Debating scheduling a tour...it's a great price for a 3 bed around here.  And that closet looks awesome!

  • Nice!! I love the huge windows :)

  • I like it too. The inside looks beautiful. Though the price has never made me so glad I moved out of the city :) I like my backyard to much now to even really want to go back, though I miss the all night delis.

I definitely think ya'll should schedule a tour!

Definitely costs a pretty penny to live in the city!  My parents 3 bed, 2 ba house in my hometown on 2 acres of land cost about 1/3 of what we're figuring we'll have to end up spending....but we love the city and can't imagine moving elsewhere!
  • Very nice, windows are very important!

You taxes are what kills me!

Seriously! I mean, I have no comparison of other cities...but another $300+/mo in taxes sucks!

  • I'm in a completely different country than you, so this isn't helpful, but ours will be about $3000 in our house, which is pretty common for suburbs here.

  • Looking online through all of the new houses that hit the market every day was my favorite thing about house hunting.

haha, so true.  Although really, we just resigned our lease for another year, but it's SO addicting!

But it also makes you wonder about the places that look awesome but have been on the markey 150+ days!

  • I found that in that situation MOST of the time, it meant that the place had foundation issues.  That is, if the price was right and the house looked great, but had been on the market for a long time.  Foundation issues were the cause 99% of the time.

Also, if it ends up being an awesome house on a crap-ass street... that was usually the other cause.  lol

  • Tisha, one of the houses we looked at last year when we were house huntings, had major foundation issues. I walked in the entryway and had a feeling of vertigo becuase the floor wasn't level anymore and the basement had a huge crack running down the wall. Needless to say, we got out of there fast.

  • That looks like a fabulous place!  We gave up on looking in the city (Buffalo) because everything we liked was either out of our price range or had something else wrong with it (great house not so great location or great location but fixer upper house).  We ended up buying in the suburb I grew up in.  Enjoy the search, and try to stay patient, the right house will come along eventually (we were looking for over a year).  Taxes in NY are the worse, ours are going to be about $4k on a house valued at $180k (at least the schools are the best in the area).

    LOL, I know!

I once made the mistake of putting $400K into Mel-Foster website for QCA homes..bad, bad idea when you compare what you'd get here in the city vs. QCA.

DH & I talked about it, and we didn't call to see the place...we don't have a 20% downpayment saved yet and to try to put down less, the mortgage would be do-able, but put a strain on us, so we're going to continue to wait/save.  But dang, I need to stop looking in the meantime, and so should DH!
