AW: Joining the world of SUVs!

This weekend we are trading in our car ( pontiac G5) for an SUV (pontiac torrent). Mind you, I don't drive... so its more of a big deal for Paul than me. But I'm excited for the extra space and being able to get the car seat I want, not having to worry about it fitting in our little car.

The only that sucks is that the payments for the SUV are a bit more, so we will have to cut back in other places, like eating out on the weekends. I'm glad too though, because eating more meals together at home will be nice.

  • Congratulations! Just out of curiousity, how are gas prices up there? Because we were planning on getting a bigger car, possibly a small SUV, but gas is getting close to $4/gallon and is supposed to be over $5 by the summer, so I think we may be changing our minds.

  • Congrats! I can't wait till I get my new vehicle in the fall. I'm curious what your gas prices are too. The last time I filled up gas here was $1.09L yuck! I think we are supposed to get to $1.16L this summer. I'm so not used to that.

Right now gas is about $1.20/L or $4.54/gallon in Toronto. Big cities are often subject to extra taxes though.

  • It's great that you're getting a family car. Just keep in mind that with an SUV comes much more spent on gas each week in addition to the higher payments. It will be worth cutting back on meals out to have a car for when your baby boy is here though.

  • Yes, the gas was definitely taken into consideration! Paul's dad wanted us to get a brand new 2001 SUV because the are better on gas than the 2008 we are getting. But the insurance for that 2011 would have been waaaay higher, so not worth it. Gas is about $1.18/L here right now.
  • We actually loved the Pontiac Torrent when we looked a few years ago. The only drawback was we needed the back seats to lay completely flat for a crate for the dogs. Otherwise, awesome car. Not to mention, we love Pontiac.

Gas was 3.41 when I filled up yesterday. $50 for my new SUV. ugh.
