Worcester area rentals

I'm relocating to the Worcester area within the next couple of months (currently in CT and current lease expires May 1.) Anyone in the area have any recommendations? Areas to look, more importantly areas to avoid? Would like to keep rent at $1200 or under. BF will be working in Westborough if that helps at all. TIA for any suggestions!

Re: Worcester area rentals

  • Westborough is a very nice town. Can't go wrong there. Could be pricey though. Check out Northborough, Marlborough, Shrewsbury (ladder two will be more affordable). I hear Upton, Hopkinton, and Milford are nice but I don't know much about them.

I wouldn't live in Worcester itself personally. There are some nice areas though. I went to WPI and rented by the school. West of Park Ave. between Salisbury and Pleasant Streets are neighborhoods with very nice homes (used to run through there for track). I don't know if there are any rentals there. There are tons of rentals by WPI occupied by students. But we can get a 3-4 (small) bedrooms for $1200. Granted the apartments are usually dated. But for a college student it works.

  • We rented across route 9 from the hospital on Plantation st, from the company called princeton apartments (its like a mile up from the intersecton of route 9) SUPER nice apartments, pool, fitness center, etc.....really nice people too, we stopped renting because DH couldnt afford his half of rent at the time.....and i couldnt support both of us as i was going on internship.....cute location the area itself is safe i loved it.....shrewsbury is a great town too :) cute rentals, nice people :) loved visiting people there too :)

to avoid? anything near lincoln street, anything referencing "the valley" (unless you're high on the hill) ummmm no super inner city.....i can kindof give you more info i cant remember....let me know what you're looking at and i can give you a better idea

west boylston is SUPER cute too i worked there and its pretty reasonable

  • Thanks for the feedback! BF grew up in Shrewsbury so we both know the area pretty well, just were unsure of exact neighborhoods. Most of the places I've seen in Worcester haven't been really what I'm looking for so I'm thinking a surrounding town might be better. Unless we can find either a really modern or super vintage-y feeling place. Maybe I'm just being too picky.

We'd really like to find 2 bedrooms, something really sunny (most places have been rather dark), big windows, either very modern or vintage-y/unique (I love old places, but I like really modern amenities), great kitchen (this has been the downfall of most places I've seen - nicely remodeled place, but super sh!tty kitchen - I cook/bake A LOT so this one is important), hardwood would be preferred over carpet, oh and a fireplace would be nice (obv not essential.)

I know I am being way too picky for just a rental, but if anyone has any ideas, that would be great!
