Brandon Davies and girlfriend: premarital sex got BYU star suspended

When star basketball forward Brandon Davies got dismissed from BYU's team, people immediately started flipping through the university's honor code for possible violations. Now reports are out on exactly what Davies did: the sophomore had premarital sex with his girlfriend.

Brigham Young University operates under a strict honor code that prohibits, among other things, alcohol use, premarital sex and beards. The clean-shaven 19-year-old acknowledged to school officials on Monday that he broke the section of the code that calls for students to "live a chaste and virtuous life," according to the Star Lake Tribune.

The Tribune reports that Davies was "extremely remorseful, heartbroken," and has apologized to his teammates.

The girlfriend has not been named. Though he has been suspended, Davies is allowed to remain at the university.

"Everyone makes mistakes in their life," said BYU teammate Charles Abouo. "We are reaching out and trying to help him get through this."

When asked whether Davies would be back on the team next year, Coach Dave Rose said, "Yeah, I do."

Easy to see why Rose would want the 6-foot-9 forward back. In the Cougars' first game without Davies, BYU lost to unranked New Mexico by 18 points.

From what I understood, he admitted it. And it could be that someone told on him and he felt guilty about it...?

They are REALLY strict about that. There were some issues with getting JJ baptized in the church because he was born before I got married [which clearly meant I was engaging in anything but a "chaste and virtuous life"]. A lot of people have been talking about this - honestly, that was the last thing I thought was the violation, but it's BYU. Different from other schools.

Because it's BYU, this is the first thing I thought of. That or alcohol (and I didn't figure it was excessive drinking).

I thought more alcohol. I'm not surprised it's premarital sex, but I thought it'd be an alcohol violation first. Sigh. Only at BYU would something like that get you kicked out. I hate that it went public like that - it's not anyone else's business how he violated the honor code.

I went to a very conservative Baptist school. We had an resident assistant who was let go from her job as RA because of having sex with her boyfriend and could never hold a leadership position on campus again. I think it started as a rumor that got back around to the resident director, who asked the girl if it was true, and she admitted it.

Looks like he admitted it. Some vindictive roommate probably told on them to get him in trouble. Honestly though, you know the rules upon entering BYU so if he broke them then it's his own fault. He could always transfer to a different school if he wanted to sex up the ladies Wink
