Too Good to be true?

I am still on maternity leave and I have found the addition of baby #2 has not been as bad as I thought. I do think however that maternity leave has given me a false sense of reality.  I am starting to get nervous now that I will be going back to work that I won't be able to keep everything together. I have been able to stay on top of the cleaning and laundry. I have been planning our meals weekly and cooking regularly.

I have a cleaning schedule and I have been planning our meals out. Any other suggestions from you organizing and cleaning gurus?

  • I don't work, so take any advice I give with a grain of salt.  I would spend 15-30 minutes every night after your DC's go to bed to clean up what you've messed that day.  Before you leave for work, throw a load of laundry in the washer, when you get home throw it in the dryer, and fold after the kids are in bed.  Luckily you won't accumulate a mess though the afternoon, so as long as you don't destroy the house in the evening, I wouldn't think you'd have too much to do.   GL.
  • Thanks for your reply.

I guess I am starting to worry now over stupid things (common for me).  I just don't want to get overwhelmed once I do go back to work. SO does help a lot and I have talked to him about my concerns. I just feel we transitioned well from 1 child to 2 and it is like I am waiting for the shoe to drop or something.

Who knows. I think I am borderline OCD or something.

  • Don't be OCD!  Enjoy this wonderful time with your kids and your organized house!

So what if the other shoe drops when you go back to work?  It sounds like you are on top of things for that transition, and if it drops, you'll deal with it then. There is no need to panic right now - enjoy your house!

  • I find that it really helps if I make a list of the stuff that has to get done each week every Monday morning- laundry and chores, errands, house projects, my own hobbies, etc.  Then I divide the list up over the week, assigning each item to a day, so that every afternoon/evening I know what needs to be done and can plan accordingly.

And give yourself time to find your rhythm again.  If stuff slides, it slides (I know, easier said than done!).

My SO and I talked about doing a list like this for cleaning or things that need to be done and crossing things out as we go. That way the other person can see what was done and what is left.

I am not too worried about the housework I guess but I guess I am suprised we didn't have a harder time. Other than the unplanned c-section and recovery, things have been ok.  SO was laid off from work the Monday before the baby was born so I am eager to get back to work and maybe work some extra hours. He has been stepping up with kids and house but I know he is stressing about work.
