General question about MWC/Tinker area

So there's a girl on the MN board looking for info about the general MWC area. She and her husband are probably moving to Tinker soon. I know the area decently well [honestly, I know the AFB better than I know MWC], but not well enough to be like, "Yeah - it rocks!" or "No - don't move to this part." Could you gals shed some insight into what all there is to do in the MWC area, where it'd be good to look for housing etc.?

Thanks! :)

Re: General question about MWC/Tinker area

  • As someone who grew up in MWC I do not recommend living there. She should look into living in SW OKC off sooner road or eastern Moore/Norman area. That way she could have easy and quick access to Sooner road which is a quick route to the base.

  • While I do not actually live in MWC (I live in Edmond) I do work there and must say I am not thrilled about the location. The area in which I work is not too far from Tinker AFB and while I do agree there is a nice patch right across from the base (JCPenny, Target, lots of little outlets) it still isn't enough to lure me here.

There IS a nice little area on S.E. 15th street and it is a mere 4 miles away from Tinker. I agree with pp, Moore is a nice option and its not terribly far away (15-20 minutes away taking Sooner Road) with more housing/entertainment options.

  • I would live in east Moore or NE Norman, or even SW OKC/west Moore area. I would not live in MWC.

  • I just wanted to add another ditto to all of the responses you've already gotten.

I work just off Tinker (as in literally across the street) and live in Eastern Moore.  My commute is a total of 12 minutes, and it's far preferable to living in MWC/Del City.  Also, the schools are much better if that is a concern for them.
