Re: Open Question

  • Is napping a cause?  Because I seriously care about napping right now.  Blah!

    I support this cause.

I'm also pretty big into adult literacy.  I think everyone should be able to enjoy reading as much as I do.

  • A local family (and sister of a friend of mine) lost everything to a massive fire last week. The Zumba family donated over 10 bags of clothes; over $100 for gift cards; and Joe and I donated our old camera and a small, old, netbook for their daughter.

2 days before we moved to NY, my mom's ex lit the attic on fire, I was outside playing and saw the flames coming out of the roof vent, and woke my mom up. The fire only destroyed a portion of the house, but between the smoke and water, everything we owned (which wasn't much) was destroyed. We came here with the clothes on our backs, and thankfully to the open arms of my Grandparents and slowly rebuilt our lives.

I can't imagine what this family is going through, and I hope we helped just a little.

Ugh Napping should definitely be a cause. I'd be all over that.

I'm all for a ton of animal causes. Breast cancer awareness(2 of my friends parents passed away from this), MS awareness(My cousin has MS, I hate it when she has flair ups, it makes me horribly sad).

  • I strongly support the fight against breast cancer and well as heart disease.
  • I am all about napping!

I also support a bunch of animal causes, and awareness for the following:

prostate cancer (grandfather passed away from it 1 year ago on 03/10)
lupus (I ave a friend in the hospital with a flare up right now - fluid around her heart, and a male co worker with lupus)
Wegener's Granulomatosis (high school friend got this rare disease when she was pregnant with her second child)

  • Wow, I'm lame...I have no major causes that I support.

There are thinks that I wish would be solved (world hunger, cancer, etc) and things that I detest (animal cruelty)...but financially I can't say I'm a major supported, unless the registration for a road(running) race benefits something.

  • Ohhh...napping sounds good!

The thing that I support the most is any cause related to pit bulls, no kill rescue shelters that actually take in pits, and education of the public about truth about the breed.  They are so absolutely amazing, and I could go on and on and on about them...but I will spare you!

Also the American Cancer Society.  Chris' mom passed away when he was 7 from cancer.

  • I'm kind of a cause-a-holic.  Here's the "short" list:

HIV/AIDS= I used to volunteer with the local free health clinic and an agency that helped to be sure people with active HIV/AIDS were getting their nutritional needs met.  It opened my eyes to the faces of this disease, big time.  Believe me, the face doesn't look quite the way most people would expect.

Breast Cancer= My grandmother is a 3-year breast cancer survivor.  The world is a much better place with my grandmother in it.  Therefore, I want to do what I can to make sure it doesn't try to take her out of it again.

Equal Opportunities for the Disabled= I happen to be the mother of a pretty darn cool Deaf kid, and I have worked with a lot of people with a number of other disabilities.  Honestly, it's hard enough to have to face those limitations every day, without adding discriminatory educational limitations, hiring practices and workplace procedures into the mix.

Kidney Disease= Ok, this one's personal.  I'm a kidney patient.  It's not a big deal to me, but it is to some people, and I'm all for making lives easier.

Domestic Violence= Anyone who really knows me, knows why this is a big subject for me.  It's affected me, it's affected my kids, and several of my friends, and it really needs to be stopped.  Like yesterday.

Heart Disease=  Far too many women in particular die from Heart Disease on a daily basis, and it's entirely preventable with the right education and screening process.

There's a whole host of others, but those are the basics.

  • I am for all cancer causes and animals.  I am especially involved in Pug Rescue.

  • I am a HUGE supporter of St. Jude Children's Hospital, and I am really mad that I missed our local radio-a-thon last week. I lost one of my best friends to cancer at 19 and about two weeks later my sister lost her best friend to cancer, she was 14. Kids should get to be kids, they shouldn't have to spend their childhood in the hospital fighting for their lives.

I am also a supporter of Breast Cancer-my grandma is also a survivor, and I think it have been about 7-8 years now.

Animals have a big place in my heart also, I am the mom of a shelter dog, and she is the sweetest thing ever, I mean, just look at her:

  • I'm a supporter of breast cancer awareness. I lost my mom to it when I was 15, so I'm a supporter of saving the ta-tas!

  • Breast Cancer awareness, for sure.  My mom was diagnosed the first time when she was 39.  Radiation & lumpectomy, was gone for a 3 or 4 years, then when it came back the second time, she had a single mastectomy.  Right after Christmas a couple years ago she went to the dr because she thought she'd cracked a rib.  It turned out to be Stage IV breast cancer, that had metastasized into her ribs.  She'd been cancer free for 6 or 7 years, so it was a shock.  She's doing amazingly well, and she's completely my hero.  I'm the team captain for my restaurant's Race for the Cure team.

All of this is why I was extra POed after I won the free family shoot from my photographer for BC Awareness month and then she flaked out on me.

I also have a long rant about how much I hate Locks of Love, and why Pantene Beautiful Lengths is a better program.

Wildlife conservation and strengthening the bans on the sale of ivory.  Right now I'm disgusted with etsy for selling it. How are we supposed to know if the so-called "pre-ban" ivory on etsy is actually pre-ban ivory?  We're supposed to take the word for it.  No thanks.  I make it my personal mission to harass etsy sellers at least once a week, asking for proof that their ivory is pre-ban, and not one of them has ever given it.

I'm also a member of the society for quality education, because I think the teachers unions in Ontario are completely out of control.
