Friday Confessions?

DH & I RSVP'd yes to a wedding at the end of the month. It's the same day as the MS Mud Run. We're both running. We just found out yesterday that our running wave is at 2 pm & the course takes 2-3 hours to finish. Needless to say, we can't make it to the wedding.  I feel ridiculously rude so I'm making DH call them to tell them we can't come.

This one is more of a mini-petulant-child-vent:

Anyone remember Skankalicious from my wedding planning days? Well she's finally getting hitched & MIL is hosting a shower for her on the same day as above. Originally, I told MIL I couldn't come because of the Mud Run. Well, now my morning is available. I *know* MIL will get wind of it cause its her friends' kid that's getting married & she'll know we aren't going to the wedding. I really don't want to go to the shwoer, but dammit, I think I'm screwed.

It should still be far enough out that they won't have to pay for your meals & she probably hasn't finalized the seating chart yet. Things come up. I would feel bad too, but I think you're handling it in a way that doesn't place you in the "rude" category.

Thank you for making me feel like less of a snatch. Smile

  • ITA. Most RSVP's aren't due until 2-4 weeks out, so I'm sure they still have many outstanding. We didn't have to give a definite number until a week out, and we had a room $$ minumum anyway so we just paid that and didn't worry about the # of people, we added a chocolate fountain at the last minute because we had to have $300 more on the bill.

  • I agree with PPs that you're not falling into the rude category. That sucks about the shower though. Maybe you can come up with some kind of excuse that you need to be down to the run early?

  • I have a million and 1 things to get done by next Friday, but I'm taking it easy for the day and I'll worry about everything else on Monday.  LOL   I've worked my arse off this week and I want to relax.

Also, I have something due to my boss by this afternoon and I still haven't finished it... whhhoooops!

This one doesn't make sense to me.  You're running the race at 2, I'm assuming you need to get there at least an hour beforehand.  An hour to get ready and account for travel to get there puts you at noon.  What time is the shower?  I'm assuming 10?  Add at least another half an hour to an hour to get out of there and back and how does it make sense for you to go for just an hour?  Surely MIL would get that.  Send a gift and call it a day.

MIL just informed me that said shower is now in April. No way out of it this time.
