I haven't had an ear infection in 20 years, so please bear with me.
Is this something that will go away on its own, or should I get some ear drops? I'm debating on letting it run it's course, but H says I should get some ear drops.
Re: Ear infection question
That sounds nasty. Did that happen to you? If so sounds like your ear drum exploded! Yikes.
It sure did. It was gross. I had to sleep with a towel on my pillow because of all the fluid. Eww. And it hurt SOOOO bad. The worst part was that it was on Christmas day when I was 15 or so, and had to wait until the next day to go to the Dr. Never again! If I feel an ear infection coming on, I get it checked out!
I've never had an ear infection as an adult, but if it were me, I'd probably go to the doctor. An infection of any sort requires an antibiotic, right?
I could be totally wrong though, but that's my two cents.
Regardless, hope you feel better soon!
You convinced me, I just made an appointment - going in at 10:30.
If it's been more than 2 weeks, I'd go to the doctor. Most of the time they clear up on their own if you are able to ride it out, but if it doesnt seem to be getting better an antibiotic will shorten the duration and make you comfortable more quickly.
Feel better!
Ha, it's only been two days.
I just told my boss I was leaving at 10:30 to get an ear infection checked out, and he told me how he lost most of his hearing in his left year for ignoring one for days. Then he told me how his friend completely lost his ear for ignoring one when he was 5 or 6 years old. (I guess he had chronic ear infections and stopped telling his parents that his ear hurt.) The doctor had to remove all the bones in his ear.
Dont you LOVE when people think it's ok to give you horror stories related to something that is wrong with you?! I got that a LOT when I was pregnant. Jerks!
If it helps, I'm a BIG baby when it comes to my ears. Infections HURT! I almost always go sooner than I should. And anytime I have even a drop of fluid behind my ear drum I get super dizzy. It's awful.
