Do you guys know anything about the Avon 2 day walk for breast cancer? If so what can you tell me about it. TIA!
My mom said she would consider doing that one with me this year and then see how it goes to decide about the 3 day for next year.
Re: **Crystal & Kara**
My mom is doing it!!!! I am actually considering signing up for it too. (I am waiting to see how fundraising goes for the 3-day, but I am pretty sure I am going to do both walks this year) Their rules are a little different than Komens.
For example, you can walk one day or two days.If you walk one day you only have to raise $500, two days $1,000. If you are not close to your $1000 minimum a couple weeks prior to the walk, you can drop down to only walking one day. I think you walk 20 miles the first day and 10 the second.
You have to raise all of the money I think 2 or 3 weeks prior to the walk. Or maybe you have to be at 80% at that point, I can't remember. If you are not you have to give the money yourself or drop down to one day. This is different, Komen gives you 6 weeks after your walk to continue raising money.
Concept is very similar to Komen, except instead of camping you stay in hotels. You do have to pay for the room yourself. Its $150 to sign up for the 2-day and $90 ($65 right now with the promotion) to sign up for the 3-day. All of the money raised for the 2-day goes to that city. Very similar to Komen.
I have walked with several women that have done both walks. I have heard good and bad reviews. I've heard the 3-day is better organized, better route, security transportation. But in the end we are all supporting a cause we are dedicated to, and thats whats important.
