I didn't know if you'd be notified if I responded to your blog comment.

I have a lot of different types/brands of cloth diapers:
BumGenius 4.0 and BumGenius All-In-One
Fuzzibunz One Size
Thirsties Duo Diaper and Thirsties Duo Covers
Grovia All-In-2
Charlie Banana pocket
Rumparooz pocket
Blueberry Deluxe pocket
Monkey Snuggles pockets and Monkey Snuggles fitteds
Flip
Bumkins All-In-One
Bummis Whisperer Wrap cover
Forward Thinking pocket
Knickernappies 2G pocket
BubuBebe fitteds
Goodmama fitteds
Kissaluvs Marvel fitted
Monkey Toe Diapers fitted
Cheeky Diapers fitted
I also have some prefolds
I make wool pants and covers for the fitteds

I *may* have a bit of a problem :)  Actually, I recommend trying different brands/types.  Every baby is different.  And over time my preferences have changed.  If you want to know anything about what I have just let me know.

P.S. Your bump is totally adorable!

Re: girl-23

  • Woah.. okay, the only ones I've heard of on your list is BumGenius and Bummis. I may not have all of those available to me in Canada.

So, what's the different between the "pocket" and the "fitted"?? I only know what All in Ones and pre-folds are. I am headed to a cloth diaper seminar this weekend so I'm sure I'll learn more about them. I am planning on going with mostly All in Ones (I think) and some that need liners.

  • Stephkay, I think your baby's bum may be better outfitted than I am. Stick out tongue

A few of those are WAHM companies, so those might not be available to you.  I think the majority of them are.  Actually, I think BuBuBeBe is a Canadian WAHM.

Pocket is where you have an insert that you stuff inside the diaper.  The benefit is that you can adjust the absorbency depending on how much of a wetter he is.

Fitteds do not have a waterproof outer layer.  You can use a cover or fleece or wool in order to keep it from soaking through.  These allow his bum to breathe a bit more.  I use these a lot in the house and especially if he has an irritated bum.

You'll learn lots this weekend.  Have fun!  I wish I had gone to something like that.  Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

Ringy: I know, crazy right?  I wanted enough so I don't have to do laundry every day.  Even with all of those I will save roughly $1,000-$1,500 compared to disposables by the time he potty trains.  And then I can re-use them for future kid(s) for even more savings.

  • I had been planning on CDing..... I found these links really helpful, obviously no experience, but it helped me make sense of the different types.

  • I looked into the same sites that EHayes mentioned. I also just started buying a few in each brand. i figure even if I don't have enough when the baby is born, I can supplement in between disposables until I have a better stash. I figure at least some cloth is better than no cloth.

Everyone on the cloth diapering board recommends the trial from Jillian's Drawers if you're curious about each brand and style.

Let me know how the diapering seminar goes. I might look into one around here.

So.much.information. My head might explode! Thanks though!

  • Isn't all the cloth diapering info so overwhelming? I felt so lost at first!

All I use on Parker are Green Mountain Diaper prefolds with Snappi's to hold them together and Thirsties as the outer, leakproof cover.  I bought the GMD's from their website and the Snappi's and Thirsties from Amazon. By far the cheapest cloth diaper option and it's not hard or time consuming.

I also have Happy Heinies and Fuzzi Bunz, both of which I can't stand.  They have never fit Parker right at all.  I'm glad that I didn't stock up on too many at $20ish a diaper!

I bought a dozen of these during a Cyber Monday sale... I think they were/are organic indian cotton or something, sized for newborns, with a 3pack of snappies and a Thirsties cover.  The deal was really good and they sent a whole pamphlet of info with the purchase.

I had read that PFs are best to start out since some babies grow quickly out of the new born sized diapers.  You can use these with a cover at first, then use them to stuff Pockets later on or something like that if I'm remembering correctly.  Either way I was happy with the deal and website.

Ooooh good idea! I'll be looking for some unique covers on etsy for sure!

  • I should add that I didn't start CDing until Emmett was 4-6 weeks old. For the next baby I do plan on stocking up on prefolds for the beginning.
