NER: do any of you have (or know someone that has) celiac disease?
or someone that can not eat dairy products?
If so, can you please recommend brands of dairy free/gluten free foods/snacks etc that are paletable.
Thank you in advance!
Re: NER: do any of you have (or know someone that has) celiac disease?
DH's favorite uncle has celiac disease. We either pick up gluten free stuff from Whole Foods (they've got some delicious gluten free pastries) or my MIL makes something. There are lots of recipes online.
Good luck!
Assuming this is not for a child, Milwaukee's own Lakefront Brewery brews a beer for people with celiac disease. It's called New Grist, it's made from rice and sorghum, and it has national distribution. If you're used to regular beer, it tastes a little odd at first, but after a few sips, you get used to it and it's pretty good.
And if it is for a child, remember this for when that child reaches drinking age. Celiac disease should not deprive anyone of the joy that is beer.
For dairy, look for the kosher symbol on a product (usually a U or K), and then look to see if there is a 'D' below it (lower right). "D" means there may be dairy products in it.
My former roommate's sister has Celiac disease. In addition to eating stuff from Whole Foods, she's a big sushi fan.
Thanks ladies, keep these recs coming! It is for my DD and since she's only 3 I'll have to hold off on the beer!
I'm going to try the GFCF diet with her in the coming months and I'm trying to arm myself with a wealth of knowledge on tasty gluten free/ caesin free foods.
If you know of any particular recipe websites, I'll take those too!!
TIA

thats cool bab - you'll have to tell us if it seems to make a difference.
