So, we bought a motorcycle.

I guess I should say J bought a motorcycle. I mean I was involved, but it is mostly for him. He had one years ago, and got rid of it to buy a four wheeler. He goes to pick it up tomorrow. With the way gas prices are going, I think I better get one to ride to work. Indifferent

Re: So, we bought a motorcycle.

  • What kind did y'all buy?

  • A Honda VTX 1300. It is a 2006, so we got a great deal on it. The man traded it in on a bigger one. He never had it in the rain. It was kept in new condition. Not a speck of dirt on it when he brought it in. He just traded it in last Saturday, and we signed papers on it Monday. I guess I am a little excited. lol. . .

  • Very cool. I assume you're planning on riding with him?

  • Yeh, I am going to eventually. The man who had the bike before us put a sweet seat on the back with a back rest. I am a little nervous because I have never rode before.

I never have either.  Never really had the opportunity, though.

  • Cool! Post a pic when you get a chance and let us know how you like it.

  • I will! I am glad you all think it is cool. I was worried it would be a much different reaction.

  • I worked at the local Harley-Davidson dealership for about 6 years. My dad rides and I've been on quite a few trips with him. I would say just lean with the bike and please wear jeans and decently soled shoes. I've seen some ugly injuries that could have been prevented or at least decreased if girls had worn reasonable clothing while on a bike.

  • Yeah!  My dad has a Harley.  My uncle has one too and he used to take us out on rides when I was younger. It is definitely on my list to purchase one after we get a house.

  • I'm glad you're excited about it.

Personally, I'm terrified of motorcycles after witnessing a handful of bad accidents (then again, I've witnessed a handful of bad car accidents and it doesn't phase me -- trust me, I know I'm being a hypocrite).

But, if you like and enjoy them, then Congratulations! I think that's awesome, especially since you got a good deal.

  • Congratulations!  How exciting.  Just make sure you guys wear all the protective clothing.  You might even want to take the motorcycle safety course yourself.  Even if you are just riding on the back, it would be good to know and probably make you feel more comfortable.

DH has two motorcycles.  One go-fast and one vintage (both Ducati) that he is restoring.   I really want to get a scooter for when he finishes the vintage bike, but he said I can't even think about it until I take the class.  Fortunately his go-fast bike only has one seat, as I don't think I would feel comfortable on the back of it.
