BR: If you know of anyone

If you know of anyone who adores kids and would like to make a little extra money, will you send them my way?

I am planning to hire someone to watch my girls while I go to weekly ultrasound and blood draws starting on the 10th of March. Then I'd like them to watch the girls once a month while I go to the OB and/or possibly a standing weekly (paid)playdate.

I'd like to hire someone ASAP so that they can spend some time here with the girls while I'm at home. That way Ana could warm up to them.

I'm thinking maybe a college student. Maybe in nursing or early childhood development but I wouldn't turn away someone else either. I'd also consider another SAHM, but I couldn't promise that my appts wouldn't fall during naptimes.

I'd also be willing to do a swap if someone else wanted to get out once a week also. The could come here for my appts and I could go there for theirs.

Has anyone used sittercity? Others to recommend? I almost hate to post on craigslist but I will if I have to.

Re: BR: If you know of anyone

  • We moved to the DM area from NJ a few months ago. I am SAHM but write on the side. I like to have a sitter come for a few hours once a week to give me time to go to appointments and get things done sans the boy.

I registered with sittercity (you have to pay). I posted an ad for what I was looking for though you can also search through the sitters available in your area. I received many replies, I did an email interview first, then scheduled in person interviews (I interviewed 5). Of the ones I interviewed, I would say that 3-4 of them would have worked just fine but one was a stand out. She is actually a reporter kcci.

If you could make your appointments on Mondays I could pass along your information/her information (if she is interested I could ask). I have her on Tuesdays. She is only off on Monday/Tuesday from her day job. She is $15/hr - which I know is high for Iowa.

Anyway regardless, I will say that sittercity is a good resource. Some/many of the sitters already had their background checks run as well which was nice - otherwise you can pay like 10 bucks to have it done through the site.

    Good luck!

  • I don't think I am someone you'd be looking for on a weekly basis since I would prefer to keep my girls home during their nap times, but if you do find someone who can't be there all the time, I'd be more th an happy to be your backup!  If you find you have to go to more appointments than you anticipated, the girls could have several (unpaid, silly!) playdates during your surrogacy.  I'd love to be able to return the favor that you did for us while we were building!  I see that our house isn't too far from WHS, so perhaps it wouldn't be too inconvenient for you to have the girls here?  I feel most comfortable watching 4 on my "home turf." haha!

  • If you call Drake's School of Education they will happily put up a job posting in the building for you.  There are many ed. girls that take on jobs like this during the week, especially for the times you are thinking because many students have more flexible schedules with practicums and such.  Plus, you don't have to pay to advertise!  Jobs seem to be filled very quickly with highly qualified students.
