Has anyone used them before? I used to always get calls from them at work and always ignored them. Now I wish I would have written down their numbers. I wonder how to find some and also if it is worth it.
Re: headhunters
From an employer's standpoint, I hate headhunters. We are currently interviewing at my firm and it is a pain in the butt dealing with headhunters. Whereas it took about 20 phone calls and emails to set up an interview through a headhunter, I was able to set up interviews with only one phone call from the people who contacted us directly. Therefore, the people who use headhunters are probably put lower on our list.
I had a friend who used a headhunter last year to get a job when she moved to Indianapolis and it was a horrible experience for her. Although multiple companies offered her a job, the headhunter would not get offers from both. It seemed ridiculous to make a candidate make a decision about a job without providing her with all of the information.
I also received several calls from headhunters over the past few years, but never got very far with them because they would never provide me with information about the firm. I wanted information before I submitted a resume.
Monica,
A good friend of mine is a headhunter in Schaumburg. She's been in the field for about 8 yrs, I think, and she's great at what she does....page me on GG if you'd like her contact info, or if you'd like for me to pass your resume along to her.
I used one and it was helpful. I was moving from out of state so they helped my resume and get me into the area that I wanted to be.
I hear good stories and bad depending on the headhunter. I personally really liked mine and he was really trying to take the intangibles of each of the companies into the selections he provided. I explained the environments I worked in during the past and what I liked and disliked out of each one. He screened the companies based on that and my skill level.
I had a couple phone interviews before coming to Chicago and then I had 3 on site interviews 24 to 48 hours of being in Chicago. It was a huge relief to have choices in where I would be working and to have offers in under 1 week of being here.
If you want I can provide my headhunter's name.
