I just got an email from my clinical instructor saying that next Tuesday (the 8th), we have to go to clinicals from 6:30-11 and then walk a quarter mile down the hill to the school to take a Kaplan Nursing Assessment exam from 11:30-3pm (clinicals normally end at 2:30), then walk the quarter mile back up the hill to our parking lot. Then get all my paperwork done for Wednesday. Somewhere in there, I'm supposed to find a place to stash my laptop for the exam for the first 5 hours of clinical-- leaving it in a car in an unwatched parking lot in the ghetto or leaving it unattended in the break room does not appeal to me, strangely, so I'm going to have spend 5 hours of clinical with it wedged up my butt because that's the only safe place for it.
This school blows my freaking mind-- we are expected to manage and organize every detail down to the smallest decimal point but the instructors and administrators can't organize their way out of a paper bag. There are grammatical mistakes and typos so bad on our exams that we can't actually understand the questions or the answers; we never know where a handout for a class is going to be posted (or emailed to us or given to us when we get to class); they decide to schedule mandatory activities like these assessment tests outside of normal school hours (a good 3/4 of our class has work/daycare issues when they do this); and half the time, they make changes with lectures or reading assignments but don't tell us until it's too late.
And have I mentioned that we have a very specific number of clinical hours we HAVE to have in order to be in compliance with state and federal licensing regulations? Somehow, the school is allowed to randomly change what activities constitute clinical hours-- to suit their whims, of course.
WTFH???? Can I fail them? Can I give them an enema? Why? Why am I not allowed to lodge an IV pole up their butts?!? Arsehats.

Re: Quick vent: My school can suck it.
Yes to all of the above. SUCK IT DANIELE'S SCHOOL!
Sorry :-(
Thanks, Jess.
I mean, I have perspective: I haven't lost any loved ones recently in a fire or in a car accident; I have my health for the most part; and MH actually noticed my hair cut.
But still, this school is making me very unhappy and extremely stressed out. It's nice to be able to vent!
but in other news, good luck on your assessment!
@ Kim: heh heh heh. Hemorrhoids and bunions made me laugh!
@ Jacqui: I never even thought about that! That's how irked I was... dang! Now I'm REALLY mad!
This was my first thought too. Then you brought up the logistical details of taking care of your stuff and I thought "These administrators used no common sense when scheduling this day!" :-(
No, they didn't. Idiots.
One of my pregnant classmates simply said "my baby won't let me go without lunch." They're going to have figure this out because I'm eating-- even if it's at my computer during the test.
