Tuitition Assistance Payback
Has anyone ever had to payback the tuitition money they received from their employers TAP program? How long did they give you to re-pay the funds? I had a coworker leave in September and she has yet to receive a bill to payback her tuititon. I wonder if they just do not really make you pay it back. Anyone else been in this situation?
Re: Tuitition Assistance Payback
I am positive this varies by company. When I left an employer I had to pay back a tuition assitance amount. They allowed me to set-up my own payment plan with no interest and would periodically send me statements of my balance. I just mailed a check every month to the address they gave me.
I would suggest your former co-worker reach out to HR. I am unsure of what your company's ramifications for not paying are. They may send her to collections, they may consider this to be a benefit and she may owe taxes, they may do nothing. I know I wouldn't want to wait too long on something like this.
We don't have any policy in place to payback tuition. Its on a semester by semester basis once you meet the initial time qualification.
It varies by company.
When I got my MBA, my company at the time paid for it 100%. They had no policy in place concerning repayment. There were no opportunities for growth at the company, so I left shortly after. I heard that the company changed the policy to require payback if you didn't stay for X years after receiving reimbursement. All because of me! LOL
